Gonna go for a new TV, not sure what everything bloody means anymore !!!! Any advice guys ?

LCD every time.

Curry's are doing a fab deal on the LG 42" FULL HD LCD for only £379 - I bought one for the kids room yesterday and picture is razor sharp.

Personally I prefer Plasma. We went for an LCD but I find the contrast and blacks quite bad compared to our old plasma.

Plasma are generally more expensive though. I hear LED TV's are superior to both... 

Better half's dad bought an LG LED. Very impressed strong vivid colours excellent blacks no clouding and it's only just over an inch thick.

I have a Samsung LCD. Pretty good picture not much tear out but clouds quite badly- also the sound isn't great due to hidden speakers. Will probably get LED soon.

If LED not available in large enough size plasma wins for me too- they tend to be heavier but viewing angle and blacks are better- should also be able to get a good deal on one.

As Gaz said there are some ridiculous deals out the ATM.

As always YMMV so if possible go and look at some different sets but if you go to a chain retailer ask to see the tv with a dedicated source- they tend to use splitters or RF distribution amps to split a signal between multiple sets which is inherently lossy.

1. LED
2. LCD <- this is where I would buy at the moment - best VFM IMHO
3. Plasma .

Plasma all the way for me at the moment, will wait for LED to become sensible. Plasma is one signal on, LCD is 3 .... which is why LCD is crap at action films etc. Plasmas do not "burn in " any more, so are ideal. They handle gaming amazingly  Land Rover Addict

All I know is that LCD's have a backlight that cannot be turned off (unless the TV is off) therefore black is never actually black. Not only this but you get light bleed - if you had black and white lines you would see shads of grey as the white bleeds sideways into the black. This can also happen with colours, which is why a plasma has a higher Colour Saturation and a greater Colour Gamut.

With Plasma the individual pixels can be turned on and off, and are also their own little "cells" so you don't get any bleed with light or colours.

The downside with plasma's is they are heavy as they tend to have a glass screen - new ones don't get screen burn (any more than LCD with latent image). They also have extended life now 100,000 house easily which is over 10 years of constant use. The backlight on an LCD will have failed way before then.

With the above being said - I have an LCD at home because we have a dark living room, but if it was any lighter we would have to change to plasma. OR LED as it has all the benefits of plasma, but the tech is new.

I'm going to wait till they can make a 42" OLED screen! As thin as a piece of card- ideal to hang on the wall 2010 MY Vogue SE TDV8 3.6 Stornoway Grey- fully loaded

I got a panasonic plasma earlier this year and it's class. With my PS3 and a HDMI cable the pic is class for games and movies. FFRR TD6 HSE
