United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Vogue SE Supercharged Java Black
Auto Dipping Exterior Mirrors.

Hi,

Does the Vogue SE spec come with auto dipping exterior mirrors?

I've noticed recently that only the interior rear view mirror darkens when there are bright lights behind, so before I book it in to the dealers, how do I confirm my car has dipping exterior mirrors?

I've attempted to check my spec using microcat, but I can't find any reference to the side mirrors, so can one of you who is more knowledgable on mircocat advise me where to look?

Do the exterior mirrors only dip when the outside temperature is above some threshold?

Cheers

MY08 does, the weather doesn't make any difference to the function only the bright lights behind. Only answers part of your Q though. Ian

Thanks Dan, thats what I had hoped - so mine appear not to be working. I will book it in to the dealers in the hope that it's covered under the LR approved warrenty

Do you have a tinted rear window? This screws the light sensor up - speaking from experience Sad

Yes the back and rear side windows are tinted, but I can see the centre mirror darken if I cover the light sensor on the front of the mirror, but the door mirrors do not change colour.

Is my test flawed, or would you expect the door mirrors to also darken?

The door mirrors both power fold and adjust, so I don't think its a disconnected connector.

Cheers

The mirror detects light behind the car - coming in through the rear window. Without a light source it will not know to dip properly. The light sensor at the front of the mirror is used to verify that it is actually dark outside.

The problem is the interior mirror is programmed to dim before the side mirrors (to do with the angle of the light) So if the mirror is only getting 50% of the dazzle than it would normally it doesn't think it needs to dim the side mirrors.

Does that make sense? I feel like I used far too many words.

Thanks Dan, that does make sense, I will try the test again tomorrow with a bright torch shining on the rear view mirror, and my finger over the front sensor to trick it into thinking its dark outside.

I may have a much easier explanation , what colour is the glass in your wing mirrors? Because although the SC came with autodipping morrors they may have been broken at some point and changed with the wrong glass.
Blues tint is non dipping (and about £70 ) and dipping is a gold tint ( and about £160 ). 2008 MY Supercharged

remote park heater
and no ugly kid windows.

I cant see any noticeable tint colour, neither blue or gold.

I will book it in to the dealer next week and ask them to have a look.

Cheers
