If you are talking cam covers then yes you need to apply the correct sealant to either side of the half circle cut outs at the rear and either side of where the upper timing cover join is st the front.
If it's upper timing. Overs then no you don't
It shows a pic in Rave or have a look at Beisan site at the m62 procedure.
I'm away or I'd send you a pic and a link to the correct sealer

Arr those ones, you don't have to but i would. beisan site says to use sealer on them. i would clean the sealing face as best you can and the outside of the solenoid and apply a thin layer of sealer on the sealing face of the seal and just around the inside of the bore of the seal, not loads but just enough to give it a bit of help to seal as the sealing face may not be ever so easy to clean and the outside of the solenoid could be a bit rough.
i used a little pick tool to remove mine, they may feel stuck but i put a little pick tool into the bolt holes in the seal and worked on each one in turn a little at a time.
There are a couple of non return valves behind there as well that can be replaced but you need a long m10 metric fine bolt to pull them out and a special socket to remove the solenoid
