About a year ago I resolved this fault by soldering a broken wire at the top of a shock. The fault is now showing up on my dash again. So I guess I had better do the "upgrade harness". Has anyone fitted the upgrade harness and if so:
• How is the lower end attached to the wiring loom?
• Is the lower end easily accessible, or deep in the engine bay?
• Is it a suitable job for an entry level DIY'er?

Hi everyone. New to the forum so hope I’m doing this right. I have the same issue with adaptive dynamics fault. Couldn’t see anything obvious so I will look in more depth tomorrow when it’s light but I wondered if anyone could tell me if I sort the possible broken wire will the fault light disappear or do I need to takenitbtondealer for them to remove the fault light. Thanks in advance

Fault will clear once the wiring's sound.

Thanks mate. Really appreciate the quick reply. Could I also ask, do I unwrap the tape from the wires to check for the break if it’s not obvious? What about where it joins the main harness? Nervous about goingbpastvthatvpoibt. Apologies if I’m asking basic stuff but I’m not the most practical. Thanks again

The break is usually very obvious, you'll need a Torx driver to remove the shock covers.
Then remove insulation, the break is usually around the area where the wire enters the shock tower.

Is a very satisfying fix once done.

You sir are a gentleman. Thanks Greg for your advice. I managed to take covers off earlier but couldn’t see anything obvious. I will look a little more in depth tomorrow during daylight and let you know how I get on,was too cold out there with my torch and I wasn’t sure wether or not to unwrap the tape around the wires before they enter the tower through the black covers. Thanks again for your help. I take it that it’s not likely to be anything else?

Ah too kind - it's all about sharing the knowledge which is the amazing thing about this forum. I came as a complete newbie a year ago and I've learnt so much. The least I can do is contribute back, as everyone does here. A few jokes fly around too which tops off all the advice.

Could it be anything else? 95% it'll be a break near the tower. The thread I linked to covers that. This thread actually talks about the loom end which some people have had issues with. But as I said, 95% chance it's tower end. But could be either side to trigger the fault.

Unwrap the insulation, feel along the wire for the break and if nothing felt, check the other side.
Solder or connector join, start her up and check to see if the fault is gone.
Once fixed, re-wrap with black tape and put the kettle on!

You'll find the Terrain Response features are unavailable while this fault is active too.

Greg sorry. Me again. Last time mate. You said unwrap the insulation and feel along the wire. Does that mean it may not be an obvious broken wire and could be a break within the insulation which I will only be able to tell by feel? Thanks mate.

Hi Deegs, - well I guess feel and look closely.

If you look at that Youtube video it's a good example of when you're looking for. In that case it's a visible break of the wire including the wire's own insulation.

But it's a small wire so just a good study for damage.

The reason I said 'feel' is that the wire on mine was not split completely in two, but when I ran my finger nail along, I felt a 'nick' in the wire's own insulation. The insulation was damaged but not broken completely. When I bent the wire back on itself kinda hinging it on the partially split insulation, the copper inside was a clean break.

Hopefully makes sense.

Hi Greg. Update as promised. All working now so thank you very much. It was the osf that had a break. Used a connector as no soldering gear which made it a little difficult refitting the cap but all works again now. The grommet i could only get in half way, will that be ok or will I need to revisit? Tbh both sides the wires are in a bit of a state so think I will send for the new upgraded harnesses. Any recommendations where to get them from?
