I have a dilemma, I have been a proud owner of the 3.6TDV8 Vogue SE MY10 since September last year. Absolutely love the car to bits, currently on just over 70k miles. My brother in law owns a a 4.2 SC MY06 Vogue SE with slightly less miles than mine who is in the process of buying a newer car so I am thinking of selling mine to get his. So my question is, is the extra power from the 4.2SC worth it as its pre-facelift so has less gadgets in than mine. I Believe the SC engine is a very good engine so servicing costs should be less and the turbos are prone to going to the V8. Any opinions welcome. Thanks in advance.

I think going from a 10 plate car to an 06 plate is going to be a downgrade myself plus you've got to consider fuel consumption as id imagine the SC will use miles more than your tdv8.

As you've already stated though, the 4.2 is supposed to be the most reliable of all FF engines.

Unless you are going to be quids in I don't think I'd bother.

Power delivery is very different - I assume you've driven (and are happy with) both ?

Mentioned in a post, back in the day in early 2013:

"There's a lot of people who dress their vehicles (usually diseasels) up with S/C grilles and side vents (wheels as well). Just buy a Supercharged!"

This was at a time when I was lurking on the Forum and looking to purchase a 3.6, which was within my budget. I didn't and bought a Supercharged instead.
Good decision? Well mpg is pants but I only do 5000 miles per annum. Touch wood and everything else, have had no issues with engine. It goes like stink when you give it the gun.
Serviced every year at a local indy with just suspension components replaced here and there. Fore & aft brake rotors and pads changed by myself and a couple of brake lines changed out. Having the wheel arch rust issue sorted later this month.

So far 5 years of grins with the Beast! Previous cars:

If yours has the TFT screen and is well looked after i would vote against the move. I'm.a speed merchant myself but with the right tools. No disrespect to anyone on here but to buy a FF for speed doesnt make sense to me. Same brakes and suspension as a 3.6 ( maybe not yours admittedly). Just my humble opinion.

Also I sure one of the dealers on here had both and said a mapped 3.6 ' felt ' just as quick as a 4.2sc ( unmapped) in the real world of driving as opposed to published performance figures. 2015 4.4 AB

Map your 3.6 and you'll be over the moon.. they take a serious map those things. My mapped 3.6 felt quicker than my stock 4.4tdv8 and it was quicker in real world driving as it would just go without much convincing, just a little squeeze on the peddle and it would boost away, point and squirt.. whereas I feel the 4.4 needs murdered to get it to give you the torque.. and I don't like to murder it. I wouldn’t have an 06 over a 10 just for the updated suspension alone! Yes the SC is the motor i would have long term but not if it meant going back to old tech, old suspension etc etc

Stick with the newer model...

I wouldn't do it unless the SC was too cheap to say no and 10-15mpg didn't worry me( it would if it was a daily driver)

Some years ago I had an Audi A8 4.2 Quattro , I loved driving that car but 8mpg on short trips got a bit wearing after a while

I’ve got another 4-5 weeks to decide. The SC will be sold
To me at a good price, 500-1000 less than it’s actual worth, and I would be about 3k up after the sell of mine.

Just had to book mine in this weekend for a steering wheel pump replacement ! And after some research the 3.6TDV8 will drop a few thousand in value after another 10-15k Miles.

Fuel economy isn’t a problem for me as I only do weekend miles so the difference isn’t going to be huge !

I now have lots of food for thought 😭

Out of curiosity anyone recommend a company for a decent map? MY10 3.6TDV8

Hi, i had a quantum 'middle of the road ' map and it mad my 3.6 feel much quicker than my 4.4 tdv8.

Sounds like you need to have a good drive in the 4.2 SC first before making a decision. Everybody has different driving styles and preferences and in my brief test drives I've had in a 4.2 you need to really be higher in the rev range to notice any difference in performance over the TDV8.

But what if you map the 4.4 TDV8 ? One day your life will flash before your eyes......................................make sure yours is worth watching!
