I had this message , on my car, replaced battery but had to drive it for awhile, several days, the car then seems to know all is well and the message went away.

Do the newer models need the battery coded on the car via diagnostic?

This may be of relevance - (Or at least the comments in reply)

I presume BMS stands for battery management system.

there are those around here far wiser than me but IIRC you can't just change the battery like in the old days. You have to tell the cars' BMS that it has a new battery and give it a few basic details about it.

Hi
I have replaced my battery in the boot footwell in my 2014 RR.
I bought the similar battery from Europarts and the only mistake i made was not informing the InControl guys as this brought up an alarm at their end and hence they phoned me.

I did not need to have the car recoded all went back to normal

Thumbs Up

I get it all the time on my 2013 if the car is not driven for more than a day. It appears to relate to me doing only short journeys most of the time now. If I do a longer journey (say 60 miles round trip) it is then OK for a few days but then even after say a 5 mile run, as I stop the car the 'Low battery, please start engine' message comes on (why would anyone then start their engine and sit there for an undefined time period or go for another drive when they had obviously just arrived at a destination and turned their engine off - dumb idea!). Even after a few days it has never not started for me after having the message. I had the battery checked by the main dealer a few weeks ago and they confirmed the battery was in good condition when they tested it and also said it was due to me only now doing short journeys (as was the excess diesel in my engine oil courtesy of the DPF, also due to short journeys - I have done 3000 miles in last 6 months) . I bought a CTEK MXS 3.8 battery conditioner/charger to hook it up to if I know I won't be using the car for 2 days or so, it seems to do the trick and is always there should the day come when the car doesn't want to start due to the low battery Smile Steve

For info guys, it turned out my battery issue was actually due to water ingress (windscreen on drivers side at A pillar) which over months slowly leaked in and gradually wet all my carpet and was shorting my battery. Once water issue fixed, battery has been fine and never used charger since. Steve
