Airbag (suspension) replacement

2003 Vogue

Anyone replaced just front airbags re-using the old struts?
I am having trouble.

Put all the new orings onto the strut but cannot slide the new airbag over the bottom 5 orings. (step 4)
The 2 black ones seem slightly too big. (see step 1)
Tried washing up liquid to no avail.
Youtube videos make it look like it should slide on easily.

At @ 8:30 he inspects the airbag and sees the O rings inside. They may have changed the design since his video was made ? .

Yes I see that now. I will try installing the orings into the airbag and try it that way.

I've ordered an Arnott replacement bag so when it arrives I'll be doing the same thing. I'd suggest installing the O-rings in the bag and use a lubricant on the shock to ensure it goes on easy.

I can imagine it might go pretty easy then 2011 4.4 TDV8 Autobiography

Its been suggested to use an air compressor to inflate the bag to force it into place

This video also

Does appear to make fitting it over the O rings an easy procedure.... Question .

I don’t know why you would want to keep the shock in a 2003 model. It would be not be functional. ______________________________

How will it inflate if the sealing rings are not in place?
Surely it would leak?

2010 Range Rover Vogue SE TDV8 Alaska White

one of my struts was reently replaced so i took the old one apart to see inside Very Happy

as well as the set of 3 plastic spacers + 2 O rings that seal the bottom of the bag to the struct body, there is also another similar, but much smaller., set of 3 plastic spacers + 2 O rings which seal the top end. these parts fall inside the air bag when you take it apart.

the diagram earlier in this thread doesn't show them at all but if you look on the Arnott website it does show them - but doesn't tell you where they go!

that vid hgher up in this thread doesn't mention them at all unless i missed that part. i cant see how the top end seals without them fitted

The image was only to show those bottom orings as this is what I am having the problem with. I know they are seals but the airbag will not go over them. Its like they are slightly too large.
