Awesome write up. Thanks for making the effort to share.

As for others talking about mapping out the EGR on the 3.6 TDV8. One of the best custom map makers BAS will not map it out unless it gets mechanically modified. I personally wouldn't rush out to get rid of it in mapping without some real knowledge of the outcome.
If Pete from BAS isn't doing it that way I'd be wary.
Just my opinion...

I fitted emulators in June. The motor seems a little quieter and smoother. I assume because it's breathing clean air all the time.

There is no or much less (can't see any) black smoke under acceleration. Previously I would get a build up of soot on the rear mud flaps. I no longer get that build up, I'm assuming because there's less black smoke out the back.

The only thing strange is I get the occasional momentary hesitation at idle, which wasn't there before.

I did contact BAS but was from memory concerned about maping out the EGRs when it had no DPF. I think because his maps are for cars with a DPF.

The emulators are quick and easy to fit. Very happy over all. ______________________________

Wish I had the guts to do my own work but just had two new EGR valves fitted and cost me £1103.00.

I am planning on following this excellent how to write-up and replace the EGR valves over the forthcoming bank holiday weekend.

Looking through the list of parts required I noticed that "2 x LR004250, EGR Tube>EGR Gasket 3.6 V8 - L322 Range Rover + Sport" was duplicated. I have look through the write up and I have only counted 3 sets of gaskets during the refitting phase and one set of O-rings.

I want to make sure I have all the required part to hand when I do the job, so could someone who's done this job please let me know if there are other parts required (with the part numbers if possible).

So far I have orders the following:
1 x LR018322, EGR Valve Left Hand 3.6l V8 L322 Range Rover + Sport
1 x LR018321, EGR Valve Right Hand 3.6l V8 L322 Range Rover + Sport
2 x LR004250, EGR Tube>EGR Gasket 3.6 V8 - L322 Range Rover + Sport
2 x LR003828, EGR Valve>Tube Gasket 3.6 Dsl
2 x LR003831, EGR Valve Gasket 3.6l V8 Diesel
2 x LR003898, O Ring EGR Valve Tube 3.6L DSL G-CAT

I have left out the ducts at this stage.

Many thanks,

Nick.

Thanks for getting back to me. I wasn't nitpicking by the way. I think your post is excellent. It is just that I wanted to make sure I had all the required gaskets before getting stuck in on a 3-day bank holiday weekend.

Thanks again,

Nick.

Great write up, very useful and lots of great pictures. I used it as a reference when changing my thermostat on the weekend.
Total job time about 4.5 hours, including about 45 minutes to get the hoses off the thermostat and get the new one in place. Being a RHD I only took the metal cover off the left hand (passenger side) rocker cover and just moved the wiring harness over to the right hand side of the engine, leaving the injector harness plugged in on that side.
That saved a good amount of time.

Take top turbo hoses off to inspect. A visual while fitted can be ineffective. Check easy things first. ______________________________

That sort of time scale could indicate turbo actuator problem.

Can't thank you enough for the post, all the photos etc were an awesome help. Just finished changing the left hand egr, engine light has gone off and the car runs perfectly again!

I recently did both EGR's on my L322 TDV8. The original LR factory ones were marked Valeo. The protective side plates in the write up do not need to come off. Remove both front right angle elbow air hoses off the plastic manifold before manipulating the manifold back and out from under the wiring harness. It will come out. I also removed the EGR valve outlet pipes from the manifold afterwards, cleaned them out and refitted with new o-rings. Also scraped off carbon build up inside the manifold near the 6 inlet/outlets. Before fitting the new valves, I also replaced the two 90 degree coolant elbow hoses forward of the valves. The egr coolers can be cleaned through with a .22 rifle brush. 2007 3.6 L322 Vogue (SE)

Thanks for the guide. Changed the pair of them this morning, took about 3 1/2 hours to do and relatively straightforward. No fault code reader required , just basic tools, it’s just plug 'n play. I fitted valeo parts which were £418 for the pair and didn’t require additional parts.

Car now ready for mot!
