Hi guys,

My 2011 4.4 Tdv8 is a lovely piece of kit and in the main, I'm very happy with it.
One thing that really REALLY bugs me is this rattle from said parcel shelf !!

Now, I have narrowed it down to the shelf, a rear passenger pushed down on it and the rattle stops. Remove the shelf, again it stops. looking at the underside of the shelf, all felt pads are intact and on their correct seat. The noise is only coming from the nearside........offside is fine !!

Has anyone encountered this and fixed this ?

PS I have tried various foam backed strips to place along the plastic shelf location , to no avail.......it still rattles !!
Bar throwing the shelf on the bonfire, has anyone got a cure ?

If you’ve put foam underneath and it still rattles is it moving slightly left and right, enough to make a noise?

Yes, I have tried several positions for the foam backed tape....to no avail. It is driving me mad !!

Check that the trim it attaches to is not prone to rattle - all fitment points. Basically sit in the boot and pull/push everything  Land Rover Addict

Hi DMRR, I have tried to wiggle jiggle, push and pull everything in that area........ lol .
The only way I can replicate the noise if I push the shelf up a little and let go (similar to movement on a bad road I guess).
This is obviously from inside the boot!!

The only thing I think it could possibly be is the location pins have been worn a little...... I don't know, im at a loss tbh !

I'll be at Snetterton week after next (19-21st trackside photographer), staying at the Premier Inn. Can possibly stick my spare (as in the one from my 2006!) in the boot for you - if you want to try a different one - at least that'll rule out the cover! Mines grey .... Land Rover Addict

I had this and it drove me mad. Short of one of my mates driving around with me in the boot looking out for the noise, I found out it was the upper tailgate. I adjusted the spacer nuts at each side and the noise disappeared.
Every problem fixed without opening my wallet makes me feel like Ed China !!!

I had tape around the pins on mine - made them a little fatter and seemed to work for me

I had the same and eventually discovered that the tail gate latching mechanism, in the lower tail gate, was loose.

Took 10 minutes to fix.

And there are little finger springs in the very rear pin locating slots, are they still there and/or loose? Cheers

Had the same sort of rattle until about 5 mins ago
For me it’s one of the spring clip type thingys in the rearmost recess near the window where the shelf lug slots into when it’s fully flat.
Push the shelf back and look in both sides with a torch. Also if you try and move the shelf up and down when flat by holding in this area it will be obvious if one or both spring clips are missing,
Mine is pushed to one side so need to get in there and relocate it.
I wrapped the shelf lug in tissue to confirm. It stopped rattling  Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

this is what I did, fome plus shrink tubing on the pins

Drove me mental. I had some self amalgamating tape which is used for waterproofing cable joints, worked a treat on the pins. I can have a look to see if I still have some.

Just a quick update with regard to this rather annoying rattle from the shelf. I have checked the location spring clips, all are in place and look ok. I got hold of some heat shrink tubing to try on all of the shelf pins.......this has without doubt made an improvement on the rattle.
Don't get me wrong, its not totally cured , though I think we are in the correct direction !!

I'm going to place some more foam strip in areas around the shelf to see if I can eradicate the rattle totally .
