Just replaced air compressor on 2008 RR - now weird problem

Hi there braintrust,

Id like to ask for help in diagnosing a strange problem. Recently I upgraded or replaced the old hitachi compressor for the new AMK compressor from the Hitachi one as my old one was failing.

I have a GAP IID tool - and received the correct firmware to flash after the new compressor was installed.

After some work on installing the new compressor and reflashing - it works BUT it has a weird set of problems

1) Whenever you raise or lower the suspension (which works fine) - the DOWN arrow is illuminated for BOTH actions (so you press up, and the down arrow lights up until the suspension is raised)

2) The suspension will not lock in access mode (the little lock button on the terrain system)

I checked with the IID tool - and all the button presses (short and long, up and down) are being correctly registered.

I checked with GAP and they are stumped. So am I - but it seems weird that the suspension works but the terrain control system is acting all weird

Has ANYONE seen this - (this worked before the reflash to AMK and with the old compressor) - is there some other component that needs to be updated as well?

Help!

Thanks

Same issue here as well. I tried to troubleshoot by flashing back to the Hitachi firmware and I regained the ability to lock the suspension in access mode, but flashing back to the AMK firmware made it not work again. I definitely think it has something to do with the AMK firmware provided through the IID tool, but many emails back and forth the GAP Diagnostics got me no where. They just say it can't be the firmware and they get it from LR so everything should work.

Did any of you ever figure this out or did you just give up and decide it wasn't worth the headache just to be able to lock in access mode?

I may try my indy buddy and have him flash it with his "professional" scanner to see if that makes any difference.

I had this same issue

And went looking for the email exchange with GAP - here it is. They sent me a custom flash and that resolved it.

This was April of 2020 and it was Patrick Meilleur who is super helpful. Maybe you jog his memory with this

-----------------------------------------------------
Hi

Lets try this;

-Connect the IIDTool to your computer USB port
-Start the updater software
-Click “Find Device”
Select ''Custom Build 2644''and Click on “Program Firmware”
OR click on Program Flash Files Only if this button appears.
-Wait until completion
-Follow the instructions on screen in regards to the mobile App file loading.

In your vehicle (in this order):
-Menu->ECU Flash... RLM-Suspension AMK AB

Update the IIDTool to firmware build 2643 if at 2644, else skip this step.

Hi Guys

I hope everyone is safe and working remotely on your side.

Now that I am at home all the time - I have spent some time trying to figure out this issue Im having a bit more

PROBLEM DESCRIPTION

This happened after I changed the air compressor and had to reflash to the new compressor type. The process of changing the compressor and refreshing worked fine

but…..

A) Now when I press the DOWN arrow on the suspension control in the center console it will only go into ACCESS MODE and not CRAWL mode. The lock button will never light up

B) When I press the UP button - the DOWN BUTTON LIGHTS UP - but the suspension goes up….. very weird. It will go into off-road mode, and give me a bong and a dash alert if I exceed 30mph where it will lower

C) when the suspension is in access mode it will automatically raise - NO DASH MESSAGE OR BONG

No suspension error messages……..

I do have the electric steps (not sure if that matters)

When I run the scan ECU info - it shows the suspension as having a firmware update available. Why? Can you help me understand.

Then I tested further

In your app I can select the lights of the controller to come on

UP ARROW works (even if I press it in operation and the down arrow comes on - your software will light it up so it works)

DOWN ARROW works

CRAWL mode works (so again as above even though I cant engage it - the light turns on)

ACCESS more works

OFFROAD MODE - works

So basically when I test from the GAP application the lights that are supposed to light up do!!!!!! This means that there is some weird logic or programming going on no?
