I sort of asked this question in another post, but I don't think I was clear! So I'll re-phrase. Do the later (post 07) cars with the rotary terrain response dial actually perform any differently on the road to those with the older two-switch system? I'm unlikely to be doing much off roading if I'm honest. Is handling much improved?

I'm looking at 4.2 SC models but am guessing same rules would apply for all?

Using Sand mode makes the throttle response faster and allows more revs without Traction Control cutting in, but apart from that I've not noticed any other effects.

If you've got the Adaptive dampers on a later facelift L322, I'm not sure if they change mode with any of the Terrain Response settings Paul,

There have been threads on here that said that terrain response 2 puts the car into grass gravel snow automatically if the temperature is low enough, even of on a dry road, so slowing throttle response. If wanting normal response one had to choose 'road' manually.

Based on a situation when I was struggling to get up a grassy/muddy clay slope in a 322, the grass gravel snow setting was more effective in solving the problem than road. GGS is notably gentler in take-off. Only Range Rovers since 1988

Mine has never done anything without me changing it manually.

Not that I’ve seen anyway, and I would have noticed as throttle response changes quite a bit.

In normal though, can’t imagine any differences on road between years, well, not due to terrain response anyway....

yep below 5C and with TR2 you go into G/G/S - the of it though is that it doesn't warn you on the dashboard that it has done it..

A simple idea like that would have saved me a trip to the dealership to run diagnostics as to why my car had suddenly become so sluggish!!
