2010 tdv8 torque converter question.

Hi
Has anyone did a rebuild or repair on zf torque converters?
My mechanic tried and after 20k km it vibrates again.

Is it true zf torques are hard to rebuild??
2010 tdv8 150k km. 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

We only fit brand new ZF/Sachs torque converters

Reconditioned parts are usually done to a minimum price, not a minimum standard...

Some reconditioned parts are as good as new with much less price.
I am asking if this can be done with this part not if i should buy new part;) 2010 3.6tdv8 180k km.

I’m not sure about the 8HP converter, but with the 5HP & 6HP units the difficulty is that the lock-up clutch is ‘captive’ i.e. the LUC piston return spring retainer is friction welded in position to the centre tower, very accurately, during manufacture. When the converter is re-manufactured the weld has to be removed, the friction plate(s) replaced and then the retainer has to be re-welded back into position again, very accurately. This is quite an involved process (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sslp8SqU-0Y) and should only be entrusted to a company with a lot of experience working on this type of unit. There are a number of ‘ZF approved’ places here in the UK with this capability e.g. JPAT, Sussex Auto Parts, Mackie Transmissions, etc. The need for accuracy stems from the fact that the LUC piston stroke is tiny (only around 1mm for the 5HP24).
