Emigrating AND taking car with me.

I'm emigrating to Tasmania next year and am hoping to ship my 2008 Tdv8 3.6 L322 as the cost easily outweighs the cost of buying one out there.
Looking at shipping options there seems to be a height limit of around 1.5mtrs for vehicles, the Rangie is about 1.65 approx. Has anyone on here already done this? Any info would be most welcome, thankyou. Thumbs Up 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.

I used to be indecisive and have a split personality... but we are ok now...I think?

We took a Volvo XC90 and a BMW 320 with us when we emigrated out to NZ in 2003. They both went in a 40ft container and cost around £800 from memory.

We used a company called Anglo Pacific.

do some research first
lots of cars some times have to be modified at great expense in order to come up to Australian standards RR 2005 4.4 petrol
Any spelling mistakes are the fault of spellchecker

PS, I pId 1000GBP for the ferry from the UK to Perth. Then there was taxes, ACIS check and cleaning (they charge for cleaning no Matter how clean your car is, and in my case didn’t actually clean it!) and then putting the car over the pits (OZ MOT) and registration.. note private plates are $600 for any plate you like and in multiple colors of backgrounds and letters.

It was worth it, sold the M5 after 18 months in OZ, for $90,000 car wAs only worth 25k GBP in the UK. Luxury cars are very expensive over there as they draw luxury car tax to protect the local car manufacturers even though they have now all closed down.

Get a good valuer to help keep taxes down.

You won’t have much problems with Australian standards as the ff is officially available in country - might have to fit ISO child seat restraints to the back seats, they are not expensive and easy to fix... do them yourself to save being taken advantage of!

i think to fit child seat restraints to the back seats, you will have to be certified
a guy i know imported a merc from the UK
identical model as sold in Australia
cars have to have a panel in the doors to strengthen them for side impact collision, the UK one didnt have them, he had to fit them and there were other things RR 2005 4.4 petrol

Speak to Kristian, there’s a lot of scare mongering and people will are advantage if given a chance and make you have wool-de-hoops for a million dollars if they think you are a mug. Kristian gave me the info up front, put me in touch with a good local estimator engineer and a qualified mechanic to deal with the pits and any mods.

He will know what if anything needs to be changed or added. He has imported hundreds of cars form all around the world.

It’s an easy and painless process if you get the right help and advice plus you could make a buck in the process.
Look on carsales.com.au to get a good idea of the ff’s value.

I imported a Merc SL when I emigrated in 2007, was fairly easy just had to pay for all the checks and tax but worthwhile. My understanding is now there are ridiculous rules regarding a total ban on asbestos imports. This means any car without an Australian compliance plate will need to be stripped to its individual components and all checked individually.
Used cars over here are more expensive than UK counterparts Zero rust where I live being one good reason. Why bring over a rust bucket when you can buy local?

Yes it is a bit barking as we are awash with the stuff, see, https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Wittenoom,_Western_Australia The point is by the time you have paid shipping, all the different import taxes, cleaning, compliance plates, etc you still run the risk of a jobsworth having a bad day and copping a massive bill. There are not many l322 TDV8`s for sale at any time here. One with 300000ks just sold for A$12k. Not long ago a 2007 Luxury which is the same as Vogue SE went for A$17k with 220000k. High mileage over here is the norm, rust, on the other hand, is not. My 2003 car looks like new underneath once you brush the dust off. If you were bringing over something exotic I would say yes but a 12-year-old Range Rover maybe not worth it. [/img][/url] 2007 TDV8 VSE

I take your points but surely in this, day and age a British made 2008 car would NOT have any asbestos in it anywhere? Perhaps Jaguar LR could clarify?
I've spent a lot of money on the car treating it like a project, remedying all sorts, as until recently we were going to stay here.
Am I correct in saying there is no Mot as such for Australian vehicles and they can run for years unchecked with serious issues if owned by some dozy muppet until one day a cop pulls them over and orders repairs?
What would be a good equivalent replacement if I don't take it then, Land cruiser? Big Cry 2008 L322 Vogue 3.6 TDV8 in Java Black with parchment and Navy interior. 125000mls.
