I am experiancing a slight fault. What happens is at low revs/tickover, Drive does not always seem to engage straight away, the revs just rise and no forward motion. This happens especially when slow cornering. I have also noticed the D (on the display) is either flashing or not showing when this happens. The vehicle has not done high miles (20000), and there are no strange noises or any other indication as to why this occurs. It is intermittent although i am noticing it more.
It's a 4.2 S/C

Any Ideas ?

Andy, this may sound strange, but I just wonder if it might be related to your battery. I have a 2006 MY S/C, I have gearbox issues, and I'm pretty sure mine are caused by a failing battery giving low voltage, causing faults. Mine is particularly bad at idle, low revs, which is why your description rang a bell.

First thing to check is the indicator glass on the top of the battery, mine is black, and remains that way even after driving all day. It will be replaced tomorrow.

I phoned my local LR dealer who suggested it may be lack of lubricant at the selector cable / gearbox area. So I've decided to get transmission fluid changed and selector checked and lubed. The battery starts the car with good power even after 2 weeks of no use, but I will get it checked --- thanks for the suggestion.

btw I am using an independent based in Bristol (Sreve Hill) if anyone knows of his reputation, it would be useful to know.

Steve Hill is very experienced and thorough with LRs and has been a great help to me. He is expensive however. I would def ask him for a quote but also check out other Transmission specialists. Dan_1984_uk has had his transmission oil changed but I can't remember where (it was around Chippenham area). if you have the cash, Steve will do a very good job.

Seems to be a common problem amongst S/C's all of a sudden!

Mines booked in for Wed morning....apparently a sofware update/TSB is needed.

Its not really that bad but I know its there and it bothers me now!  If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

Further Findings............. When in Drive if pull the gearleaver backwards, D reappears and I have drive. I have also found Sport / Manual does not give any drive.
I am thinking this points towards a selector / cable issue.

No drive in Sport/Man whilst D has dissapeared or no drive at anytime? If you have nothing nice to say,say nothing at all.

I didn't experiment enough, but could seem to get drive at all in sport/man.

All fixed now and luckily not too expensive ! My gear selector and arm were seized, new arm fitted and set up, now it's silky smooth.

Mine just fixed itself!!
