Reverse camera removal - struggling please help

I've read everything I can find on the forum, wiki and youtube etc but am utterly stuck on how to release the camera from the housing.

It's the newer style MY10-12 which doesn't have the screw at the back.

It has two little access ports where I understand I should insert two stereo removal type tools and the camera should pop out. It may be the tools I'm using or the angle I'm going in at - I've tried every possibility. I'd prefer not to destroy the housing so any help/advice would really be appreciated.

Diagram below from the TSB makes it look quite straightforward but I can't get it to work...

Many thanks

Looks like it slides out backwards at a 45 degree angle, and the release tools need to go in straight down (cross covering the holding clips) to unclip the camera ? .

Thanks Joe90, after much frustration I ended up breaking the housing. Now that its open I can see the trick is to push something very thin vertically down the slots and then apply some pressure in the direction of the sides of the housing. Problem is it's very difficult to apply pressure and get any leverage on the camera to pop it out. I found a video on youtube of a guy removing one but he makes a complete mess of the camera and housing plastic so I think better to sacrifice the housing than risk damaging the camera.

In case anyone else ends up stuck on this I finally figured out how to do it without damaging the camera or the housing.

Two stereo removal tools inserted then twisted to a 45 degree angle (see photo) then lightly tapped on them with a rubber mallet and voila camera unclicked.

Thanks - I'll have another go at removing mine once I find some tools.

I'm using a spoiler from an earlier model that I modified to catch air trying to reduce dust on the window but the camera is still in the original spoiler.

It's not difficult once you have seen how it fits together but the instructions in the workshop manual were written by the chocolate teapot dept at LR.

For the tools - I bought a generic set from Amazon and used the a medium size so it was still fairly thin but stiff enough to push the plastic retainer out - there was an audible click then I reached behind and pushed the camera out.

Hope that helps

Thanks. I made tools from an old hacksaw blade that worked a treat after seeing what's required, particularly giving the tools a light tap to spring the tabs.

I've been using a camera mounted next to the RH number plate light that allows me to see the tow-ball. However having recently made a rear wheel carrier for an upcoming remote area trip, the original top mounted camera is needed to see past the wheel, especially as the reversing sensors aren't usable with the RWC fitted.

The earlier bracket isn't compatible with the later camera which also is deeper and is the reason why the later cameras are mounted in a different position so as to clear the stop light. Both cameras are working now and the hacksaw blade tools stored with the original spoiler.

Yes I noticed they’d changed the brackets at some point. I saw instructions for the older one which had a screw to be removed to remove the camera.

Glad you’re sorted - mine is all done too which I’m very pleased about
