Whats wrong with getting a TDV8 Vogue?

So her ladyship has decided to give up on the TD6 "money pit" and move up to a TDV8 4.4.

She has been advised to steer clear of the Vogue versions so only a 2011 or 2012 Westminster or Autobiography will do.
Looking for 50,000 - 60,000 mile (ish) car so Westminster and Autobiography versions are gonna cost (me, probably) £5,000 or so more.

So whats wrong with the Vogue versions. She has been told major potential issues with the electronic toys, sat nav et al. If so is this general thing or are there certain more specific ones to avoid?

Do the 2011 or 2012 models have the twin turbo drain fitted as standard or will the modification need to be budgeted for?

Thanks

Clive

What? They have the same kit in them, same screen, sat nav, etc etc. So any issues with one will affect them all. Westminster’s are a bit later, but they sometimes have less standard equipment. So check wisely. I love my Vogue SE....

Turbo drain mod only needs fitting if the car smokes out the back when you boot it
Vogue spec comment is Censored . Get one that has been well cared for and full documented service history

None of the cars ever had turbo drain mod from factory. Some got done under warranty later, but I think if customer didn’t have an issue, it was never done. Some never needed it to this day. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

Duff info - there are no issues at all between Vogue, Vogue SE, AB or Westminster. Same mechanicals, same electronics, except the higher models have more 'stuff'.

Eg:
Rusty arches? - any model
Aircon pump (valve) failure? - any model
Turbo drain? - any model
Alternator trouble? - any model
Starter motor issue? - any model

etc etc.

As for the turbo drain, budget £1k but if you're are forensic you will be able to tell which have had them done. It is not present on any 4.4TDV8s, except those repaired through negotiation or choice. The TSB fix wasn't a recall.

Check al the heated (or heat/cool) seat modules work, two per seat. These are £230 per unit and fail a bit regular.

Satnav is a waste of time, not faulty just useless. Again any model, they all have the same kit.

Superb cars / engine combo
.

. Cheers, Greg

+1 with all the above comments, I had a VSE that had a good bit of equipment. Mine didn't have the drain mod , was remapped and never gave a puff of smoke or any trouble of any kind. Sorr of regret changing it. Fantastic machines . Obviously an Autobiography would be best for spec but you might be limiting yourself re choice. 2015 4.4 AB

Thanks for the advice gentlemen. About what I figured. No real differences just, as ever, buy a good one.

As she normally "Drives like she stole it" and it will get regular decent runs odds are there won't be any DPF or turbo oil issues.

Now how to explain things to someone who lives 100 miles away.

Hafta admit that, as a happy P38 pilot whose 65 th birthday is rapidly disappearing in the rear view mirror, these later cars have got too complicated for me to keep up with.

The earlier the 4.4TDV8 the higher the spec! They took all the standard kit away in 2011 and made it optional! Censored

So, 2010/2011 VSE spec will get you surround camera kit, blind spot monitoring, RSE & radar cruise... all optional on later models, even the AB was under spec’d...

Oh and my 2 pence worth would be to find a 2010 AB with all the spec... The leather in Westies are nowhere near as nice,

Drives like she stole it

+1

Firm believer in this to keep engine in shape.
Firm believer that if you treat the car with kid gloves, it will not reward you.
The 4.4s like to be used.
