Driveshaft popped out of front diff?

Had a very weird one today in my 4.2 has anyone had this or any ideas?

I started it drove 3 miles and it sounded like the viscous van was on full speed all the way I could here in the cabin.

Got to a roundabout and stopped put my foot down and there was no drive? Put it into park then drove again and it just revved tried again got drive.

I then got where I needed and tried to review same again then put in drive and got a weird noise. I then fixed the fuel pressure thinking the worst but it’s fine again pulling like a train in every gear and crawling nicely in reverse and drive? Also lowrange is all good?

Any ideas? Maybe one for rrphil? Is this the common start of something or could my wheel speed and fuel pressure have caused it?

Just an update to this It’s happened again!

This time it was with my lpg fitter he got it on the ramp immediately as it did it right at his place and the left hand front driveshaft had popped out! He got it back in after much struggling but wondered if this is something that happens or is likely to happen again or if I need to be changing something as I can’t have this keep happening?

IMHO, there has to be some major problem with the front suspension joints to allow the hub to move away from the diff sufficiently to disengage the splines. No front suspension system is designed to allow that under normal conditions. The shafts are basically floating in a space smaller than their length.

Knackered CV joint ?
Knackered wheel bearing?
Knackered suspension ? .
Experience is the only genuine knowledge, but as time passes, I have forgotten more than I can remember Wink

The cv joint had recently been replaced - any chance they could not have quite put it back together right and now Its back in it could be ok? Current stable:

There is every chance that they didn't get it fully infor the ring to locate but this also happened to me on a 4.2. See a post of mine about it. In my case the locking ring was broken in two and no work had been done on it previously. 2011 4.4 tdv8 Kahn. 2007 supercharged with 2012 lights and overfinch body kit. They might have used the old clip. I did on mine and it pulled out after a week or so. New clip and never happened again.

There's an audible engagement sound when it goes in properly. __
