Adding a new smart key?

Can the IIDTool add a new smart key and is there a way to tell if the KVM unit has had the LR update to make it a one time program unit?

I've just been into LR and tried my luck at ordering a new key and asked if they could check if the update was done. No luck though they just quoted for whole lot less fitting and programming. Current

Not sure which software update you're referring to, but I had my software updated around 3 years ago, something to do with locks.

I bought a spare key from eBay & just handed over the 3 keys when they did the update - they needed all the keys - and it came back with all 3 working.

The only slight problem I have is that one of the keys can't be used manually as there is no matching cut piece, but I can live with that.

Alistair, JLR updated the Key ECU locking it so a key could only be added with a code from factory! Yours may not of had that update? Mine had, my wife’s D4 had NOT! I could add a key to hers and not mine! Patrick sorted mine from memory? Hence my above post sir... Thumbs Up

Im unsure Alistair... This all took place 18months ago or so, maybe when the car thefts were heavily publicised?

Update

Messaged GAP and the reply was to just try coding a key to find out.

I had an idea of plugging in the IIDTool and checking if anything wanted an update, sure enough the KVM was on the list of updates, thought I was onto a winner.

I decided to use a local ish guy that I've used a few times over the years for new keys, I have a habit of buying cars with only 1 key Big Cry. Long story short, LR have had their grubby mits on the car and the KVM is locked.

Turns out if you know how then the KVM can be unlocked but it isn't a 2 minute job as the KVM has to be removed and surgery carried out on the bench, he's coming to me on saturday to hopefully delete the missing key and add another all for £250.

Bits from LR come in @ £450, key blade, smart key and KVM then labour ontop so probably £800. Current
