Spud..

I asked this question on my last phone call with them.. Apparently they have a newer car already in the workshop ( im assuming l405) and this has just had some sealing done due to water leaks lol,

anyway the 3m clear seam sealnt used for this l405 is the same part number as a service bullitin for the l322..

So they are going to remove one hinge at a time and spam some sealer in / around the hinge and then bolt ir back up..

The thing i couldn't work out from the video was where exactly the water gets in through the hinge, it almost looked like it was through the boxy in the very middle of the hinge.. whereas my vision was that it would be where the hinge face gets bolted to the car body..

Just hope my amp is ok and that the horrible noise was caused by the boot speaker being wet.. Regards

Daz

If they're saying they will remove the hinge then bolt it back up, then that does seem to suggest that the leak is between the hinge plate face and the body. The fact that they use clear silicon sealant also backs up this assumption. You'll soon be able to tell i would imagine, when you get the car back and have a look at their work.

Fingers crossed all the electrics dry out ok and no further costs are incurred. 2006 4.2 SC

No solid conclusion on why it was leaking. How can a hinge cause a leak? Press them harder. Especially at their hourly rate Censored Banging Head 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

So picked up the car today. Technician showed me what he had done.

Apparently the hinges were leaking at the mating face / where the bolts bolt down.

Hinges were lifted one at a time and some 3m seam sealer was put under the hinge and then when hinge came back down it was smeared around with finger.

Fingers crossed all is ok.

Also got a new tailgate seal fitted for good measure. Regards

Plenty more rain on the way apparently. So i guess you'll be able to report back with some good news on the water leak, or lack off now. Thumbs Up 2006 4.2 SC

Well had to complain to the dealership today.

I noticed that when the hinges were lifted one by one to seal that they have not gone back exact and not the tailgate is well out of alignment. The left side is flush with the rear quarter and the gap is nice the drivers side sits proud of the rear quarter and the gap is huge.

They are going to have to remove tailgate remove sealant and start again.

Not happy.

Also the tech didn’t even get the rear d pillar trim fitted correctly and bent all the clips. I had to remove straighten clips by hand and refit.
Very amateurish

All that along with not properly re-connecting the dvd player nor resetting the bluetooth module. Absolutely appalling. Tech needs a kick in the ar$e, workshop manager not doing his job and a serious chat with the service manager is well in order. 2006 4.2 SC

Yeah it’s very disappointing and amateurish. My bill was £763 you think that they would get it right 1st time.

I sent a email to the dealer principal outlining everything that went wrong. No reply yet.

I’d be happy if they rectify everything and offer me a free service or something. Regards

Sorry to hear that Daz but it's just another reason not to use main dealers. If you think about it, small independent specialists are the business owner so their customer service and delivery has to be spot on are the business will fail. This is NOT the case with main dealers Censored
Be firm but polite and make a real Censored of yourself and I'm sure you will get a result you are happy with. The squeakly wheel always get oiled I say Thumbs Up 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Incredible that a car of this stature has a water leak!
Same year nearly as mine, I'll look forward to see how they cure the leak.

Was this fixed in the end mate? Think I have the same problem (boot carpet getting wet on the LHS). Had to get a new amp a few months ago because it was soaked and bust it. Solved with a bin bag over the top of all the electrics once i'd put the new one in.

Wondering if I can fix it myself, chucking sealant around where the hinges connect.

So ignoring the issues the main dealer have caused in terms of the tailgate alignment and trim fitting and not plugging in DVD player properly etc They did fix the water leak.

The best way for you to test this is to completely strip the electrics out of the left hand side compartment, and also remove the d pillar trim with speaker in. This trips just pulls off. There is a clip in each corner.

Then get someone to sit in boot or you can look yourselves and try a hose pipe directed at the left hand hinge.

I believe mine was coming down through the holy holes or underneath the mating face.

You can then remove one hinge at a time and seam seal underneath it and then around it.

Just make sure you get the tailgate alignment right when you re bolt hinges. Regards

did your poppy crackly amp sort itself out when it dried? Mine is ac couple of years older than your but the PO had removed the water drains I assume because of a leak similar to yours. I will check that out now I found this post but we dipped the car to launch my boat the other day water probably came up 40-50cm at the back and water went IN the drains (that I was unaware were out) and soaked my amp - luckily everything else seems ok but this did you cracklypopping sound I unplugged it within about 5 mins just wondering how long to givee it and if there's any hope Current stable:
