Do the pads take shims / backing plate ?

The new brembo pads i have seems to have shim rivited. The old ones on the range rover is ebc red stuff and has backing plate. I am confused.

No shim needed , just fit and use . Craig : are you sure these pads are sub standard as I have used them in other applications both car and bike and the compare favorably with other brands .

When I fitted the last lot on the rear they were identical right down to the writing on the pad to the LR ones previously supplied by a LR dealer fitted ( I fitted new Brembo discs at the same time ) What problems have you experienced ? and what did ECP say in response to this ?

So just to make it easy for someone:

Steps to replace brake pads and disc:

Tools:

Trolley jack
Jack stands
Wheel choke
13mm socket ( for caliper bolts)
17mm spanner ( to hold caliper bolts/ pins)
E24 torx socket ( removing caliper bracket )
Brake rewind tool
23mm socket for wheels
T50 torx bit for removing retaining screw for disc
Flat head screw driver
Rubber mallet
Copper grease
Wd40
Zip tie to hold the calliper

Parts needed:
Pads
Disc
Sensor
Retaining screw

Preperation:
You must put car in off road mode so it reaches max height
You must disable side steps
You must parking brake in service mode

I can do a write up but I am struggling with time just now. Just thought I will feed back my experience to help anyone.

Easy job for the rear I would say.

Excellent synopsis : I would put the car in " jacking mode " IE lowest possible . If you go for highest possible ? its a big ask for most trolly jacks and they will reach their max height limit before the wheel gets off the ground .

I think I read somewhere that one needs to put it in off road mode.
Reason might be that the car will adjust the height when jacking up. So it won't lift until max height is achived.
I noticed that when lifiting the car, I heard a hiss sound and I believe the suspension lifted even more. The Range Rover was high up at this point.

Ok I’ve been to a local to me LR specialist who has quoted AP pads etc.

Also Ferodo pads as an alternative (slightly less expensive than the APs).

Anyone have an opinion on either of these? Good or Bad?

Branded LR pads are massively more expensive, can this really be justified? 718 GT4

Not sure why Brembo from ECP is considered not good. I did a part number check and the disc and pads I got from ECP are the same as what Brembo recommends. However I noticed on website it says Braking System TRW. What does that mean?


I will share list of PN I used. I went with OE sensor, OE screws but went with ECP pads and disc.

TRW is the original equipment supplier , I think its owned by ZF germany but I also heard ages back it was aslo involved with Lucas but not to sure on the last bit !!

I’m going for AP.

Graig (Cam Tech) was adamant they were cr4p, maybe he could enlighten us, all very confusing? 718 GT4
