Headunit Upgrade on 2006-2010 - Work in progress

Hi all,

A while back i mentioned that my rear headrest screen one was always broken since I had the car then the second one died and within about a month the laser died in the dvd changer.

I thought time for an upgrade as I won’t be losing anything with the rears here.

I purchased this bad boy:

This

This
https://a.aliexpress.com/mJKm3V5ab
This
https://a.aliexpress.com/poycyWuIr
And finally this:
https://avinusa.com/most-fiber-optic-amp-i...ander.html

specifically noting the head unit does have rear screen outputs once I find some screens the right size. This is fairly low priority but will happen at some point.

I then bought a jaguar m to iso f connector and then a bmw f to iso m connector and plugged them together.
I ran an ibus feed (we still have it!!) from the clock (spliced) to the ibus input on the headunit and an ignition live from the cigar lighter.

Plugged the dab/CarPlay usbs in, plugged the front rcas from the head unit into the most box and splice then into the loom. I plugged one end of the most cable in and the loosely ran it over the seats and unplugged the old one from the amp and replaced with this.

Put the key in to test and all worked.

I then fitted it properly. Unfortunately unlike the early dash on the l322 it’s very tight I had to trim
The back of the head unit to make it fit (there’s a big nearly empty metal box on the back. However make sure it all works first as this will definitely kill your warranty!!!)

Eventually got it all in and all is well except I have a bit of a hiss when no music plays like the amp
Is set to full gain. I am waking on a replacement most adapter on this.
The dab window area is pants so may get a shark for this.
I can’t get the stock reverse cam to work but I’m not giving up yet
I can’t set the time but the resler interface looks like it may be the way along with ibus app.

I will keep this updated and add pics over time.

Overall very impressEd there’s a decent dsp on the head unit so excusing the bow sound hiss with music playing the sound system sounds so much better than before (no complaints before either!)

The whole upgrade had cost around as much as one nav tool box but you get a whole load more and a massive screen.

If you have the touch screen and no rse I’d say this is a no brainer. With the rse it’s a bit of a toss up.

Here’s a pic

Quick Question: (as I have a 2008) - do you loose access to the 4X4 section? I would assume so. 2008 HSE B. Grey

This looks excellent. I'm just looking into option to upgrade the clunky system in my '07 with rear screens. Are there any plug and play options that'll work with current screen and buttons on the steering wheel etc.? 2010 FF 4.4 TDV8 Vogue - Gone

Morning - this works fine with the steering wheel for volume / skip and voice button. you lose the 4x4stuff obviously. What screen are you referring to?

Ive now seen they do a slimline version of this which should drop straight in however I don't believe it has rear screen outputs... Current stable:

Update...

So gone back and fourth and it seems the interference/hiss wasn’t from the most adapter (it makes a slight hiss but you can’t hear this with the engine running so it’s perfectly liveable) but form the head unit itself. I’ve been going back and fourth with the seller but I’ve caved and bought a cyrus usb dac from richersounds and an android app for £3.50 and the quality is fantastic now and I get NO interference (hooray) however the dac outputs at a high voltage so I can only turn the volume up to 1/3. May try a dragon fly dac next as the voltage is less.

Only problem with this... I can’t control any left right fade or bass /treble . Not a big issue as it’s perfectly calibrated dac but worth knowing.

Also with my carplay and now dac I am out of USB ports. I have an ibus interface on the way and a dash cam so I’ve had to invest in a powered usb hub for the next phase... Current stable:

Hi! screen looks really good in your car. I have just connected mine in the boot to see if everything works, and i'm quite pleased with the unit. looking forward to getting it installed properly.
Like you, it looks like i'll be short on usb ports. Have you tried using a usb hub yet? Do you know for sure that it needs separate power, or is it possible the power from the usb port will be sufficient? 2002 Range Rover Td6

I bought one off of amazon and used the cigar lighter to power it as on the 06+ it is ignition live - all working well on that front.

I can get navcoder to see the ibus traffic but I can’t activate the ibus app on the unit as it reads the vin from the light module which as it’s different it can’t see! Doh Current stable:

I will have to find a different power source since mine is 2002. Do you have a link to the hub? Does the hub run on 12V or do you have a converter?

That's annoying... Hopefully there is a workaround for it.
EDIT: Just thought of something, according to iBus installation guide you cannot use a usb hub, otherwise the app won't recognize it. Have you tried the ibus connected directly to one of the usb ports on the unit? 2002 Range Rover Td6
