Condensation on spare wheel??

Lifted the boot floor a few weeks ago and there was water in the spare wheel well! Mopped it out and took the floor inside to dry out, monitored it during the rain we’ve been having and it’s remained dry so not coming in, went to replace floor in it today there’s no water in spare well but the spare wheel was covered in moisture, presumably condensation?
As the compressor is under the spare wheel I’m thinking this might have some influence, is there some drain for this??

The compressor is meant to have a drier in it that deals with the moisture within the air system ... so shouldn't affect the outside of the compressor much.

The varying weather temps wont be helping much either. Its condensing cause the alloy is a colder mass than the heating up air from the climate.

I once had water in the boot like you describe on an previous L322. I simply pushed out one of the rubber bungs on the floor pan so there was a hole in the floor for water to get out and fresh air in!

It never got wet or damp in there again! V8 or else ...

Before I bought my L322 I knew it wouldn’t get used everyday so I talked to my local Indy about it’s storage. One point he made was condensation and damp and how it can effect the electrical components in these vehicles. He suggested buying some of those little dehumidifier units (plastic tub with polystyrene balls in it), he recommended putting one in with the spare wheel, one in the passenger side boot compartment where all the electrical gubbings are and then just leaving one somewhere within the cabin area. I picked a pack of 6 of the dehumidifiers up from ASDA for about £4.00. They’ve been in the vehicle about 3 months now, although there’s no signs of water in the bottom of the plastic container section all 3 are doing there jobs as the polystyrene balls are starting to become rock solid.

It might be worth you grabbing a few to see if it stops the problem.

I've used these in various classic cars over the years with good results.
Once full with water you just pop them in the microwave for a few minutes to dry them out and use again.

Thanks for replies, got some of those cheap dehumidifier tubs ( Yorkshire Trading) £1 each , so ill bung them in and see what happens , might take a bung out or modify it with cut out as well and see when it rains again ( no doubt won’t have to wait long)

A Rear cargo area opening seal has been known to allow water ingress, I had this problem on mine, after rain, it gets under seal lip and enters the spare wheel compartment. I usually know it has happened when I can smell stagnant water

Mine leaked from the top of the tailgate where the seam had failed in the metal. Re-sealed it and it has leaked again where the sealing lifted up, but all ok now. Suggest you check the top of yours, it leaked and took out my Bluetooth unit on the second time around as well!

I had about three inches of water in mine and the compressor was partially under water and was ok.

cheers Alex

Mine was the crash bar behind the rear bumper.

Removed the crash bar and tow bar, cleaned it all up and refitted using silicone sealant and it's been fine since.

Took me ages to find the source of the leak though and removing the crash bar it's a PITA job!

As others have suggested, I recommend removing the blanking grommet underneath the spare wheel until you fix the fault.

Very useful thread!

I've had water ingress problems before with various Discos due to the sunroof seals and thought I'd dodged this particular bullet as my FFRR doesnt have a sunroof, but no such luck as the boot carpet is damp and the interior of the windows steam up like a dogging wagon!
