Spacers on the rear.

I know some you purists out there will hate this. But looking at the l405 from the rear you got to admit it’s crying out for either wider wheels or a more aggressive offset. The rear of the car is wide and bulky, then you’ve got the rear wheels tucked away under the car.
Who runs spacers?

if you have 21'' or 22'' the rears look ok...20'' not so much but spacers are for peeps with defenders and such.. ... - .- -.

Stan. I’ve got some 22’s but they’re 9.5 wide. If memory serves me right standard turbines or the like are 8.5. I was thinking 25mm spacers just on the rear but I’ll try the wheels and see what they look like.

Turbines are 9.5”x22 with an offset of 49mm
Standard wheels are 8.5x20 with an offset of 47mm 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

you're correct ..the 20'' are 8.5j and the 21'' and 22'' are 9.5j so you get an extra inch on each side... ... - .- -.

You can almost get the same effect on 20” by fitting 285/50/20 tyres instead of the 255/55/20 as it’s not just the rim width but also the tyre width that makes the difference 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

Almost all aftermarket replicas are 45 offset compared to the stock 49. Running a 285/40/22 on a 45 offset wheel will make a very noticeable difference. I noticed it every summer on my l322 when I went from stock 20s 49et to my replica 22s on 285/40/22. That’s the widest/biggest combo you can go with no rubbing on the l322 and from what I’ve gathered is just about the widest safe for the l405 2014 FF Autobiography 5.0 SC

I have some experience with Spacers on the L405, as you may know, I am a bit of an off road Junkie, and in my time owning the L405 I have had several wheel and tyre combinations to find the best compromise and on road/off road performance. Not only are wheel spacers in short supply for the L405, but you wont find any large spacers for the simple reason that there is not enough stud length for it to be safe beyond 5mm.. Hubcentric spacers are a rarity, and for me I have had some large 275 60 20 off road tyres on that required a 5mm spacer, but also tried 325 55 20 with the same spacers..

Long story short, you actually need to buy different wheels with a different off set to make them safe. and 5mm was not big enough to make a significant difference to the aesthetics, but did allow me to avoid hitting the hub arms by about 2mm

if you do find any spacers that are hubcentric please do post them here, as I have been looking for some for a while now.


When I was chatting to one of the guys at Rockingham castle when I had the 275 60 20's installed with the spacers, he said you have to be very careful not only from a safety perspective (less thred available on the studs) but also not to compromise the wheel articulation in off road use. Anything greater than a tyre size of 305 55 20 (or similar) combined with a spacer will prevent the wheel from tucking up into the arch properly when your rock crawling or navigating any terrain that articulates the suspension, this is the reason Land Rover never offered the L405 with anything greater than 275 45 22 wheel/tyre combinations, so going any wider or larger could compromise this.

Now of course if you never intend to go off road it may not be an issue at all.

Strikes me any of the options discussed in this thread would invalidate car insurance. Surely most insurance companies would not even consider such modifications for on road use.
