oil cooler 4.4 sdv8 possible leak

Hi All , I have a oil / coolant leak. Coolant needs topping up every 4-6 months by about half a litre. I noticed today that on the garage floor a very slight 'mist' under where the engine is. I looked and there is a oil ( ? ) residue at the rear of the engine cover / tray and onto the bits behind making it look like it's coming down the back of the engine. Oil level is perfect and the misty residue on garage floor smells of coolant.

Using the search function it seems it may be the oil cooler. Using Google an OEM LR one can be had for 270 stg and a spurious one from Nissens Automotive for about 100stg. The LR one has 12 month warranty and the OEM non genuine has 24 months warranty. I'm aware the gaskets are cheap enough but if the OEM replacement was acceptable then it would save splitting the cooler. Any thoughts please ?? 2015 4.4 AB

Thanks Tinman , wise advice , I was hoping someone on here might know who manufactures the oil coolers for LR and that it would be Nissans. 2015 4.4 AB

What warranty do you get with non-LR part? Form speaking to my son who bought a new Nissan Navara their parts are not bulletproof?
Nissan engines are made by Renault?

Hi Tinman, sorry the LR one ( Mann) has a 1 year warranty not two. My thoughts are its proberbly just the gasket as its a very minor leak but for the cost of a non LR replacement is it easier just to change the oil cooler instead of pulling the old one apart. My indie is a great believer in OEM spec parts as long as they are from a reputable manufacturer or the same manufacturer who makes the part for LR. 2015 4.4 AB

Had mine done under warranty by the stealer in late 2019, it still looks to be leaking. Genuine land rover part is about £400 if i remember correctly. However on the L322 we did this not long ago and it was a ECP special for £85... I dont rate ECP, but its not failed so far..

I suspect with mine, they have replaced the cooler and not the O rings on the pipe at the back, so it could be the pipe at the back that is now causing the issue. Every range rover we have had leaks oil... My misses has a 2012 L322 4.4 TDV8 and this also has an oil leak at the front of the engine... seems land rover never made a non leaky product Whistle

Thanks Charles , mine seems to be coolant so probably not the two o rings and more likely the oil cooler. I will ask them to change the o rings while they are fitting the cooler. I'm amazed how the spurious company can manufacturer such a specialised part for such cheap money. Do they sell that many that it is worth their while ?
Thanks for your input Thumbs Up 2015 4.4 AB

Dolph34,
Don’t overlook the O ring in the cooler connector mentioned on page 24 of the main oil leak thread.
