My one treat of the lockdown week is to drive to the supermarket but yesterday in the first hot day of 26 degrees, no cold air

The system was supposedly overhauled under warranty two weeks after I got the FF last October. All the stealer would tell me was that it had cost the sales department ‘a lot’, so whether it was a loss of the new fangled refrigerant or something else, I don’t know. I always keep the system on auto and on the last beloved 322, nary a problem over six years. Obviously, I can’t get it fixed for a while but if anyone has any bright ideas, do tell....

Mine had a very small leak in the condenser - which is where most systems fail. It was pressure tested and was fine. It was only when the system was re-charged and started to get hot that the leak showed up.

I was told that if it was re-charged it could last a year, or even more. But only a replacement condenser will fix the problem long term (until it fails next time). Current:
- 2013 L405 4.4 TDV8 Vogue

Stripped for parts:

Needs the pressures checking to see if it’s lost the gas.

If it has it Needs a dye test to see where it’s leaking. As am said above it is probably the condenser.

If it hasn’t it’s probably Also worth checking to see if the clutch on the compressor is working properly. You can normally tell if it is as there is a small change in engine speed and note when it kicks in. Revs drop a smidge and you may hear the compressor start to spin. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Depends which gas it runs on, mine is about £300 for a regas

All 405's are the same expensive gas DrF...

You will need to get the system checked by an AC specialist sir... As said above, check for dye... Condensers suffer with stone damage all the time!

Thank you all for the sage advice. I have read that the newer refrigerant is exceptionally leaky and suspect it’s that. It is the sort of thing, though, that when it is fixed, you are always waiting/ worrying that it will fail again! Bring back full fat gas, I say.

Mine went wrong last year which showed a leak in the condenser so I replaced that! Then it leaked out again and it was traced to an aluminium pipe for the rear AC! Had corroded where a steel clip fixed it in place!!! Good old JLR!!!

They don't seem to learn. A steel clip for an aluminium air con pipe was a common fault with the D2.  John

Well, my warranty does run until October...

So does mine but JLR extended warranty doesn't cover AC!!!

Hopefully as I have the full Approved (rather than extended) warranty, it will be covered. Gas on its own, is not, but it may well have leaked away from some covered component!

As there is no sign of garages opening anytime soon, I called in wechillanycar.com.
Pretty impressive, I must say. The guy pressure tested and said it was at maximum (I was given a printout with all this), but no gas at all. He was 'surprised' there was no dye visible as the stealer had supposedly tested for leaks at the end of last year.
He refilled with added dye so if there is an escape, there's a chance of finding it. If as, I suspect, there is a leak and the stealer remains shut, I would feel confident to have them back. The guy that came, Mike, has done nothing but car a/c for 33 years (!).
All, I thought, a very reasonable £115 for coming out and doing the work. Oh and it's amazing what a difference a cool interior is - I had almost forgotten!
