What can cause the soot level to rise so quickly?
Had the car for over a year and never had a problem, been out today 65 mile round trip, trying to keep it above at least 40mph (not easy on our roads) and the level is now 16.3g
I had the four short hoses changed, as suggested, oil and filter was changed at the same time.
But it looks like we are going to have the light/message come on again soon.

You may have another leak. Could be any joint or union. The four hoses are typical.

Have a look at the pipe between the intercooler and the throttle body. Mine went there, was a dud clip.

Poss an air leak, either in a pipe or poss cracked inlet manifold. mine had a minute crack which made the DPF fill up quickly.

Have you had a smoke test done on it? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Dr Rob, I would not have a clue where to get one done.
So....the consensus is, it is filling up fast?
And the root cause is a leak on the induction side somewhere, either hoses, or inlet manifold?
Where are yours sitting at re the DPF levels, and how much do they go up by on a normal trip, not motorway, but just doing a 30+ mile journey on B roads?
Getting worried now!

I have just been and checked mine, it’s the one with a big circlip type fitting..Correct?
And I must say it does seem a very sloppy fit, by that I mean you can move it backwards and forwards very easily.
How tight a fit should they be, is there an o ring where it pushes onto?
I would certainly say that it’s not airtight.

Greg will be along with a better reply, I am sure, but until then, have you carefully wiped all around it with a white tissue ??
If it shows any sign of black oily soot escaping, then you have your answer. and it needs sealing.

Would really appreciate if any one has a schematic of this joint it does seem very loose, and yes, it has oil residue around it.
How would you seal this joint?

Sorry Steve but I can’t find any detail pictures of the joint but from Greg’s experience, you can be fairly confident that you have found your problem.
Can you bend the clip a bit to get more tension on it as a temporary fix ??

I don’t think the clip is the problem, that just seems to locate into slots on the fitting, but the whole connection seems to be very sloppy, I just wondered if this pushes on to o rings, and the clip just keeps it in place?
I don’t really want to take it apart, if I haven’t got any replacement parts. Would be interested to hear if this joint is meant to be quite loose.
Really don’t want to drive it any more at the moment, as I think it will just fill the DPF again.
Had a forced regeneration last week, and have done about 300miles since, and now at 17g on the soot level, I don’t want it to get much higher without finding the cause.

I have just had a bit of a prod and pull on mine plus a wipe round.
1) It is dry and clean...
2) it moves very slightly, but I am reluctant to disturb it any further in case I cause it to leak.

It seems a pretty poor design, but until we get some pictures of it in an exploded diagram ( maybe parts catalogue) ?.

Yours is going to need sealing , let’s hope Greg took some photos when he fixed his.

Mine is really quite loose, which would explain why it’s generating so much soot in the DPF.

just seen this flurry....

Yes that is the one.

So what happened to me was I had very fast DPF fill rate, then restricted.

I did a low pressure smoke test which revealed nothing.
So I had an eyeball snoop and a jiggle of various hoses along the air pipework and found that hose feeding the throttle body just slipped back off the throttle body.

The clip was still there but lost it's mojo. After checking with Duckworth's I found LR don't sell them separately so I just thought I'd bend some tension back on it and refit.

And it's been fine ever since.

I do not remember any o-rings on the throttle body, admittedly I didn't check the inside of the pipe.

I noticed a little bit of play but not excessive.

What I'd suggest is some PTFE tape, ideally the gas version as it's a lot thicker - wrapped around the throttle body male end.

Bend some tension on the clip and make sure it feeds over the grooves with positive pressure.

What was interesting was the boost pressure this system is under is clearly much more than a standard smoke test can generate. In the diagram I posted up a bit, (whilst not any kind of scale) the primary turbo on the left has much thicker blue lines so I guess that on is a beefy turbo. I love feeling the boost come in from as low as 1000rpm. When the secondary kicks in too, the total boost pressure must be really quite high. And that is why these hoses and joint can fail. I believe there are professional high pressure smoke test machines which I'd suggest you try to have done if this doesn't crack it.

I don’t think there is anything wrong with the clip, but the housing that slide over the throttle body?
Seems very loose, will have a look tomorrow
