So yesterday I was at 17.5g, so decided to take it for a run, now where I live, it’s almost impossible to find a road that I can sit at 50mph for any length of time. Nearest motorway is 80mile round trip.
So I drove on “B”roads trying to keep between 40-50mph, not easy!
The level kept rising, until it hit 20.5g, by this stage I’m thinking that the light is going to come on again.
But then, the exhaust temperature started to rise, and we started a regen😁
Slowly the level started to drop, but I knew that I was running out of road, turned car around, and started the return journey.
Interestingly, speed doesn’t seem to make a difference on the regen, as I had to come back through a couple of small villages, at less than 30mph, and it was still in burn mode and levels continued to drop, drove for another half hour, level was down to 3.26g, and exhaust temps dropped, burn complete. By the time I got home, probably about 17miles after the burn, level was at 5.1g. Do you think that this is normal?
I have noticed that at a steady constant speed, it rises very slowly, but when you are accelerating, decelerating, climbing hills, or going slow through towns etc. It really is quite a rapid rise in level
As mentioned in my previous posts, apart from the amber light,I have had no fault codes relating to this, car has not gone into limp mode, and drives lovely. For the last 300+ miles it’s averaged 28.5 mpg even on these roads.
Oil dilution is reading about 6 now seems to go up 1 point for each regen (it was on over 4 when I got it back from garage)
Any thoughts?

Hi Steve, have a read of my 'what to do if your DPF is blocked' post
It covers a lot lot of DPF 101 so have a read. It doesn't cover Oil Dilution much though.
And best advice there is frequent - e.g. 5000mile - oil changes.
I, like many 4.4TDV8 owners use Shell Helix AF-L
Like you I am penned in without easy access to a 50mph stretch of road so I monitor my soot.

Simply: Yes.

The thing is the grams value is a calculated value based on inputs from various factors, throttle, revs, pressure difference in the DPF and loads more.

Don't get too fixated, but with an IID tool monitor it and manage it.

It’s not out of the normal to get random “stepped” increases of 2-3 g when you least expect them.
I don’t think you have got any need to worry.
Just join the DPF “management “ club.
You know when the levels are nearing the need for a burn and by careful monitoring you can prevent any further alarms.

Having never monitored it before the warning, I have no idea as to what is normal.
Is there a way of saving the selection of live values on the iid tool
So as you don’t have to scroll through and select them each time?
