Deployable towbar seized

Has anyone else had towbar seize in the withdrawn position. To be told by Landrover that the complete fitting needs replacing ? Sad

Has it seized or has the motor packed up ?

I'd try getting under there with some penetrating oil as a first attempt

My local dealer told me it was seized- I tried to use the towbar after a few months of lock down to hear the usual whirring sound momentarily then it stopped Ieaving me with a permanent beeping sound !

Powerful UK have a Youtube video on the tear down of this item. The problem they had was a missing tooth on a gear, which had jammed the mechanism. If I remember correctly, they sourced a replacement part (rather than the whole assembly) and all was well.

Interesting exercise. Not cost effective for the dealership to strip the whole thing down and replace just the gear but it would be reasonable for them to replace just the gearbox.
This should be the difference between a mechanic, a technician and an engineer. The mechanic replaces the whole tow bar assembly, the technician replaces the gearbox and an engineer designs the whole assembly. It somewhat proves most stealers employ muppets. letters not necessarily in the right order

It’s what’s cost effective for the dealer at the end of the day! If they fit a new complete unit then they will have recourse with the tow bar manufacturer... If they fitted one new part And then another fails, the area of blame then get blurred somewhat!

It all depends on weather you have the skills or can employ someone with the skills to fix the said problem? Worth a try first imho sir... 👍

Valid points, it would be reasonable for a dealer to replace just the actuator. letters not necessarily in the right order
