United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Autobiography 4.4 V8 Ipanema Sand

Just did this today and replaced the Varta 019 (which I don't think is the original) with a Bosch S5 019 AGM.

That blasted TS30 NOT to be confused with a T30 (torx) is a Censored - raided my tool box and my neighbours and we both have a very large selection of kit and neither of us had one Evil or Very Mad

So just incase you find yourself in this situation there is a work around. The bracket the ECU is attached to by the two TS30 screws is itself atttached by only 1 x 10mm nut! Its a bit fiddly to get to but you can get a socket with a wobble bar onto it and then the whole ECU lifts out complete with bracket Very Happy

So battery in OK then the weird stuff started Rolling Eyes went into IID and did battery reset. Went to restart car and had the full monty of "everything has failed" warnings, EBD, ADC, ABS, HDC etc etc. Checked the live values and battery was 80% charged and about 12.2v .....

Drove about 10 miles and tried again and warnings dissapeared so I am wondering, I didn't charge the battery off the vehicle before fitting - I normally do but didn't have time today, so maybe it is only partly charged?

The weird thing was though, on the live values the battery amperage was varying between +50A and -40A, when it was +ve the battery voltage read 13.3 when it was -ve the battery voltage read 12.2

Wondering if the alternator is on the way out or if this is normal when you do a battery reset?

Also in the CCF I couldn't see an option for a AGM battery, had S5 and S5HD but no AGM - any thoughts?

Cheers,

Just did this swap today, took about 20 mins start to finish.

as above I removed the 10mm nut to lift out the ecu and bracket as one. Top tip, if you remove the top Ecu connector you can get your fingers on the nut and there is then a bit more space.

Also I don’t know (while typing) if the op detailed that the ecu cable can be freed from the bulkhead. Again liberating more space.... edit..... it’s in Nino Nino’s post.👍🏻

I haven’t bothered to reprogram the ccf yet but all seems to be well. replaced a 95AH 850CCA LR varta with a new 90 AH 850 CCA LR exide battery. Weirdly slightly lower in overall capacity but matches through as the LR replacement. Will see how it goes. The old battery was still serviceable but was slow on cold mornings to turn over.

As mentioned I did not have a fan fitted to the ECU on a 2012.

Also the FBH seems to be playing up so I can see if this helps. Didn’t have success yesterday in the cold with it! Hopefully the new battery will help. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Do you really have to code a new battery thought?

I don’t have a iid tool. So does this mean I can’t change my own battery?

Did you ever get an answer to this ? Did you change your battery OK ? I'm faced with same problem...

Lots of folks have changed and not bothered telling the car it has a new one via an IID and had no issues. I would suggest it is fully charged before fitting it. Even if new from the shop, stick it on a charger 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

Still not coded mine and so far so good. And yes the FBH is now up and running properly. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜

Mike.

If I go to "Control I/O" and then ""BCM-Body Control" I only find:-

Alarm LED
Outputs - Front wiper fast
Outputs - Front wiper on relay control
Outputs - Headlamp high beam left supply
Outputs - Headlamp high beam right supply
Outputs - Headlamp low beam left supply
Outputs - Headlamp low beam right supply
Horn relay
Alarm sounder
Outputs - Secondary tailgate release supply
Outputs - Tailgate/trunk release supply

I have a good look at the available menu options but still cannot find the "Battery" option.

Can anyone point me to the full menu path to it?

Many thanks 2010 Range Rover TDV8 Baltic Blue Autobiography (2011 MY) - SOLD Sad

You are correct! Thumbs Up

It can be found under:-

* Service / Test
* BCM - Body Control
* Battery Replacement

Took me a while but you can just see the menu in one of the earlier posts in this thread. I am a bit slow but got there in the end. Embarassed 2010 Range Rover TDV8 Baltic Blue Autobiography (2011 MY) - SOLD Sad

Whilst on this subject. I know the 10-11 vehicles had an issue with battery.
What does the vehicle look for before stating low battery message on the dash?
Wondering if it’s possible to change the battery size on iid to help delay the message?
Mine comes on and soon cuts the FBH before it has even got warm.
Battery is in good health.

Had the battery warning from new, dealers were useless - it would even give the “Start engine” message when you opened a door whilst a smart charger was connected.
