"EAS calibration"

After a few jaunts it became apparent it had a rather drunken lean to the left

Doing the this job is very simple on the P38..

I had to sacrifice one of my broom handles to make the calibration blocks for all the heights.



You need the free RSW software and a cable!




process goes like this Put the suspension on high, jack it up a bit more (one jack on the front crossmember just in front of the radiator, the other one under the towbar) and put your blocks in, starting with the highest. Release the jacks, then poke the rocker on the dash for access height. so it drops down and sits on the blocks. Open the door to inhibit it. Go to the Heights tab in the software and click, Get Sensor Heights, make a note of the readings for each corner. Go to the Calibrate tab, click Read All and you'll see two sets of numbers. Top ones are what it is programmed to now and the bottom set of numbers will show the same numbers. Change the bottom set to what you have just noted down and click Write. If you then click on Read All again, you'll see that the top set, the programmed heights, will have changed to what you have just input in the bottom set.

Jack up, take your blocks out, fit the next set (Standard) and do the same thing for each height setting. You can only change one height at a time, you can't amend more than one set of numbers and then Write the whole lot. The software will try to always put the car back to standard height so make sure it is sitting on the blocks and the door is open before reading the existing heights.

Looks like I'm not the only one on here with an obsession for P38's then

I had a 2002 Oslo Blue Vogue SE which I wish I'd never sold.

The two I've kept are a matching pair of 2002 Vogue SE's in Alveston Red. The picture of the pair together was taken in February when both were filthy.

The one on the left has since had the side steps removed, some cosmetic touches done and a brand new V8 Developments engine with top hat liners, a torquemax camshaft, bigger valves, and gas flowed heads. It's made a noticeable difference to the car when compared with the other one.

The one on the right hasn't need much more then minor fettling and cleaning.

We've still got 2 1997 4.6 HSE's that I'm going to be rehoming before long. I don't have the time to look after 4 P38's and the other cars we have so I'll keep the 2 Vogue SE's.

Rust and P38 seldom ever come together, however mine had a slight bit of surface corrosion on the rear chassis legs nothing of an concern

She was a pembroke/swansea car her previous life so some salt corrosion was to be expected..

The underside was prepared with a wire brush, to remove any loose material and the rest treated with Hydrate 80..

The rear cross member that houses the towbar was a mush mash of different colours

It looked a tad unsightly..




All crud was removed.






And treated.







Not concourse but we'll get back to it!!

More of a Mixed bag this update..

A known but not very common issue is the sunroof glass separating from the metal frame due to corrosion and allowing water under the seal and onto the inside of the glass..

Which is rather annoying..

The issue can be thought of early as "condensation" however it was dripping onto my gearlever, and centre console so something had to be done!

Thinking initally it was the seal at fault I had a quick look and while it was green with dirt, it was still soft and wasn't falling apart.

I therefore treated with to a gentle clean with some Vinyl an rubber care.




The rails ere also greased your poor motor will love ya for this!!

Anyway...

On to the water ingress.

There was a suspicious lump near the rear of the sunroof.



turns out it was rust..

SO i pulled the seal off and treated the rust, then at as a didtch effort I forced Silicone sealant into the gaps..

And then hammered the seal back on, with the assistance of some clamps!




I also cleaned and polished the roof!





Verdict is no more leakage!!  MY2001 Range Rover P38 Vogue 4.6

I must admit, I skipped the P38 and got a Discovery 2 after my classic, and before the L322. Couldn’t fault the Disco to be honest.

But I think the P38’s are finally coming into their own now.

The P38 was/is much maligned..

Their reputation isn't deserved IMO as they aged they became almost worthless and all kinds bought 'em..

Neglected examples flooded the market and gave them a bad name, IMO

Parts are cheap if needed, easily 1/2 the price compared to her Younger siblings  MY2001 Range Rover P38 Vogue 4.6
