275/45/20 tyres on SVD8 L405

Hi guys,

I am still on the hunt for an all season tyre to replace my current Michelin F1 M&S that came with the RR.

Michelin CrossClimate SUV come in 275/45/20 but unsure if they would make a good choice given the non OEM tyre size?

Current tyres are 255/55/20

They would be shorter than standard by 1" diameter, so the car would sit 1/2" lower.

275 width is fine - that's the width of the 21 & 22 OEM tyres.
20 wheels are fine
A 45 aspect ratio is too low though

275/50/20 is what you'd want

Just use one of the online calculators - https://tiresize.com/comparison/

Alistair, could I utilise your knowledge once again with a secondary question?

Do you believe the following tyre size would work and importantly fit my 20” alloys?

275/55/20 Cooper AT3 4S

My alloys are these:

I think the offset (if this is the correct term) is 0.5J x 20

Sorry - no idea.

They would be a little taller than stock - probably OK but I can't guarantee that they won't rub somewhere

They would be only very marginally taller (and narrower) than the 285 50 20's that both EM & Vogue fitted - https://www.fullfatrr.com/forum/topic20116-60.html

Your 20" rims in the picture are marked 8.5J X 20 ...et47. which means that the rim width is 8.5 inches (8.5J) and the offset in mm is 47.

I think a 275 tyre will be too wide for an 8.5 rim. On the L320 Sport 20 inch wheels Land Rover OE fit is 275 tyres on 9.5 inch rims (9.5J) and on the newer Sport L494 the OE 20 inch wheels similar to yours are 8.5J and have a narrower 255 width tyre as standard.

Hope that makes sense!

Seatown.....your description makes perfect sense, and now I can actually see the numbers and make sense of them.

Cooper have the AT3 4S in 265/50/20....would this make a good option?

There is a tolerance in the wheel width - it somewhat depends how straight you want the sidewall - there are benefits to a slightly narrower wheel in terms of protection.

It's not just tyre width & rim width - the height of the sidewall is also a factor in what will fit.

Oponeo (amongst others) have a guide - but seems that 275 45 20 would work on an 8.5 rim with 9.0 being optimum.

Yes they will fit fine - I have a set of 285/50/20 on the same wheels - so your size will be fine 2021 L405 Vogue SE 4.4 V8 DIESEL ~ #17

275/45/20 are too small for an L405, they are fine for an L322 though. Personally I would (and have) go for 285/50/20, I am also sure Emperor Mong on here used to have a set of 285/50/20 Cooper LTZ’s on a FFRR - a search should find it
