United Kingdom 2009 Range Rover Vogue TDV8 Bournville

Yes I do believe history and care are very important. Looked at this 3.6 today and it really is immaculate. No tow bar, local car owned by mature owner who's just bought a new one. Not a mark outside, inside perfect, FSH and invoices for brakes/alternator and one for £3k to fix phone and TV module. Certainly the best condition I've seen on the ones I've looked at. Now in a quandary over this or 4.4 that seems to be the better engine option.

Better engine, and better gearbox as it’s 8 speed. Also more economical.

That said, if the 3.6 hits every box and it’s the best you’ve seen..... I see your quandary.

Other option is to get the 3.6 and get a 4.4 next time.

Maybe I’m being too cautious and I don’t mean to put you off, as long as you are aware you can make your own choice.

A Trap

The earlier 3.6’s tend to suffer less with rot than the later cars.

Regular Quality oil changes done at a reasonable mileage (6000?), egr blanking plates and sympathetic driving by not going mad when cold and allowing the last few miles as a chilled ‘cool down’ means the turbos will last and not be able to blow the hole engine. 👍

Never having a towed is also good for engines and gearboxes

Yes, I think as they went from BMW to Ford, and then Tata ownership, it seems the level of recycled steel used increased.

Not ideal with a car at this price point, or any car really. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

After due consideration and personal reason, I've decided to go for a 4.4TDV8 Vogue. Probably will look in New Year so will get a list of spec and things i want sorted so I can narrow search to my criteria. Thanks for all the advice it's been a great help. 👍

If you can stretch to a 4.4 I’d say do so, I’ve got a 3.6 they’re great and just because it’s a 3.6 doesn’t mean the turbos will go!, it’s hardly unheard of but it doesn’t happen to a huge percentage of them.
If you’re really concerned about reliability though I’d probably buy a Landcruiser!.

I just want best option, a great 3.6 will be npbetter than a poor 4.4. I've had many cars and always buy on condition and history. If you want a RR a Landcruiser will not do. Owning a XJ and TVR reliability is not a given, but I believe buying wisely with as much info as you can get helps avoid the dodgy ones. Hopefully!🤞😃

That makes sense, I’d not be put off by a great 3.6 either.
I’ve had both a Landcruiser and a couple of RRs I’d say the Landcruiser is the better car, it never went wrong and did everything asked of it but without a doubt the RR is a nicer car!, I went back to one even knowing what they can be like, says it all really.
Which TVR do you have?, I’ve owned a couple in the past l, had a Griff 500 and a mk1 Tuscan, funnily enough both were cheaper to run than any Range Rover I’ve owned!, at their heart they are quite simple things, wish I’d kept either of the ones I had, they’re worth a fortune now!.

Yes I agree. I have a Chimaera 450 at the moment but am thinking of selling but not totally comfortable with the idea! They are pretty cheap to run given their performance, you can pick up a lot of bits easily and as you say are devoid of too many electrical gizmos. Will see how it goes!

United Kingdom 2012 Range Rover Vogue 4.4 V8 Barolo Black

Well you learn all the time on here, i tested a 3.6 and 4.4 back to back and the 4.4 won hands down so i paid the extra for a car with higher mileage. (the 3.6 had FSH and 75k) the 4.4 i went for had 110k. I was not aware of the turbo issues on the 3.6 probably because i did not research that hard.
as i tow for me the extra pulling power and the 8speed box sealed the deal i am now working through bit like replacing brakes all round and generally having all the service items done like diffs, gearbox & Engine done (Which i will do myself) the car does have history but i will do oil changes every 6k and then i know all is done to a standard i am happy with.
had a couple of bit sorted by the supplying dealer like a sensor (Last one in the exhaust) ball joints and fix the fuel gauge (they were over the moon at the fix provided by users on here, as they were going to replace the fuel sender!).
overall i am very happy and think it is a big step up from the early L322 i had a TD6 for the last one. 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

Hi Guys hoping you can help me, as not so much a petrol head but wanted a RR since I was 5 and now I'm 52 driving a Freelander 2 (2007) Looking to buy a 2011 / 2012 Range Rover. had a garage look for me as they said they could service mot and provide 3 months warranty and sell 6 month one after that.

I'm not rich and took some pushing but wife agreed I can spend around £10 - 11K on one as she liked it when we test drove 59 plate Vogue with digital screen and climate seats.

Garage has found me a Westminster 2012 registered 2013 with 140 on clock for 12k

Reading here, shows Vogue SE may be higher spec than Westminster ( It has screens in back and full service history with dual front screen and auto 8 speed)

Like that it has better mpg than my Freelander2 but did fancy the autobiography as it has petrol and few extra toys?? but worse mpg)

Have seen crazy prices for 2011/2012 plates from 10k to a local garage selling one at £19k!!! and no climate seats!! 100k on clock.

So after rambling (Sorry) 2012 for £12k with 148 on clock is good price? Screens in back tidy in and out but grey not black (Aukney grey?)

Interested in opinions and if anyone selling black one.

Many thanks

Newbie John

The important part is that you like it and are happy with the price. As you say prices are all over the place...

Personally, I'm no fan of the Westminster edition, I think it entices people with it being a special edition but to me, it feels like a lease or sales rep special as a number of things have been cut corners on and seem to have been produced to a price point. Such as the leather used for the seats, take a look at it, feel it, compare it to an autobiography. If you still like it, great, if you notice the difference you may want to rethink buying a Westminster edition.
