20" / 21" / 22" on the L405?

I'm interested to know which wheel size people think is best on the L405 (not what you have fitted, just which is best)?

My car came with 22" (LR038150), which were all scuffed and damaged. so I replaced them with a set of take-off 20" 1065 with almost new Pirelli Scorpions. I've since had all 4 22" wheels refurbished, and I've tried them back on the car and they look.... well, different.

Pros & Cons:

- 20" [Style 1065] - Tyres are cheaper and last longer. More rubber means less likely to kerb or damage an alloy. Better tyre size for venturing off road. They just look a little small and not quite right to me...

- 22" [Style 7008]- I thought they would ride much firmer than the 20", but you know what, they feel fine and if anything feel more planted on a motorway. You need to be more careful avoiding pot-holes. They look a bit bling.

Edit: - Tried with 22" turbines [style 7007] and 20" [style 1065] on different colour car:

A Trap

Unless ‘style’ is your main proviso, 20” are the way for the reasons given... better ride, better relevant performance (it’s not a sports car), longer lasting, more resistance to kerbing, pot holes etc.

Other than style you give away a lot for the larger sizes.

MMM i cannot make my mind up i like the way the 22" look to fill the arches with wheel. but i like the extra rubber on the 20" looks a bit more 4x4 to me.[/b] 2012 Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - Current

I've had all 3 sizes and it's 22's for me.

Personal taste on the looks front & the driving feel.

I tend to drive motorways & A roads plus some mountain roads that are in reasonable condition, not too many pot holes. I prefer the feel of the 22's, less roll in the hairpin corners on the mountains.

I can see why others prefer a different compromise though - there really isn't a right answer.

I'd go with the 20's but that is purely cosmetic for me, perhaps a different style 22's would change my mind but as others have already pointed out, there is no wrong answer to this. It's really what you feel more comfortable with. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

It's a soft enough car without adding more sidewall, so 22s for me having tried one on both 21s and 22s. The trade off in ride is very small and well worth it. Looks wise, I could just about cope with the 21s, but the 20s don't look right.

Just my opinion and we all have different tastes and requirements. MY23 Panamera E-Hybrid

I have fitted 20', 22, then 21s on my L405 and the best was 21 for me: nice stance and look yet comfortable and enough sidewall on greenlanes and against curbs.
With 22s you need to be careful all the time.
20s are good if you go offroad more often, but look a bit small compared to the overall design of the L405. so 21" it is. l=Oo\________/oO=l l:OolΞΞΞΞΞΞΞloO:l

22"...Let side wall = better ride and the l405 won't compromise on comfort either. I find them too floaty on big sidewall tires.

Started on 21’s and moved to 20’s and have never looked back 👍

Kerbs are no longer an issue, potholes are no longer the problem that they were, the ride is noticeably smoother, the wheels and tyres are 10% lighter than 21’s, let alone the even heavier 22’s (for decent handling, unsprung weight should always be minimised) and the narrower tyre completely gets rid of the cars annoying habit of tramlining in dual carriageway/motorway HGV lorry ruts.

My choice of 20” rims are also a doddle to clean and it’s possible to easily check the brake pads with the car on the ground and the wheels in situ.

PS: is that a BRG R53 Cooper S in the picture?!

I've got the same 22" on mine. New tyres needed soon. Think I've finally convinced myself that 21" are going to be my wheels of choice. I really like the 20"s you've got on, the mini turbines as well though.

Well the survey says......

Pays your money takes your choice. Everyone has their own preference.

Was thinking of some 22’s for mine but decided against it, will just get the 21” refurbed in the New year. maybe do a shadow chrome or anthracite. There is nothing that can't be fixed with a hammer😜😜
