DSP Amp Failing Splice them?

Hiya folks Im down to just front left speakers working on my '05 BMW DSP and little from the sub, Ive had it apart looks good and the pins are all intact, Ive given a clean over also with no improvement so I think its just the Unit failing, so before I start Amp hunting or replacing the lot is it possible to splice the front left out with the front right out speaker wires so Ive two sides with sound?

I had similar symptoms to you some years ago, traced it to bad plug connections on the top of the dsp. Cleaned the plugs up and did a bit of fiddling, all speakers came back on and have been fine ever since.
Before you start changing the dsp try wiggling the plugs on top of the dsp and see if anything happens, particularly the one nearest the centre of the car. Thumbs Up

The amp is actually the BM54 radio unit, the DSP is simply an active crossover.

That said, the amp feeds the DSP and it then feeds the speaker channels.

I’d check the connections on the BM54 big plug too.

Do you get DSP on the front screen in white text?

If it’s grey text, ie darker than the other options, the DSP has not identified itself on the iBus.

Ok. I don't really see why you can't just do way with the dsp altogether and re arrange the speaker output wires from the bm54 radio to connect with the various speaker wires that normally output from the dsp. The bm54 radio is in fact the amplifier, the dsp is a sound processor. Never had the need to do it myself but I have a suspicion others might have who could give you further advice.

Interesting info, DSP is showing and sounds like its working just through the left front side only, I can adjust the output of the DSP.

Because the system is an active system, not a passive one, so the crossovers are powered by the 12v feed in the DSP unit.

If you bypass the DSP (and there is physically no reason why you couldn’t cut and solder feeds etc, as you say) there will be no crossovers in the system to ensure treble goes where it should, mid range frequencies only go to midrange speakers etc. The high frequency speakers won’t last too long if you keep sending them low frequency signals. Plus the loading on the amp will all change too. It’s not normally driving 14 speakers.

I have read that the BM54 detects the DSP on the ibus, and sends a power on signal to it. And that the BM54 can switch operating modes but I don’t have any further info on that I’m afraid.

I’d speak to a repair place that know the kit and see what they say.

Or you can take the view that as it’s not working, you have nothing to lose by reconnecting stuff.

If you can confirm it’s the bm54 unit not the dsp - which is probably likely those bm54 were crap - get yourself a decent Android carplay/Android auto unit for £200 well worth the upgrade then get a resler interface and ibus app and you can keep all the dsp and onboard computer things. Current stable:

2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF
