I'd been insured with More Than for 5 years on my previous cars as they'd been cheapest. Went to insure new car and they wanted silly money (£1300). I shopped around and got the same cover for a 1/4 of that price. When I phoned More Than back to challenge their price, all they could say was that if I went elsewhere I'd lose the No claims protection for life! "So what" I thought and went elsewhere.

I think they have a profile or model for insurance that doesn't cover certain ages and vehicles at all and basically I took their price as " Censored off, we don't want your business, unless you're prepared to pay through the nose (and be a mug!)"

MORE THAN . . . . everybody else!

Fingers crossed for the MoT. Are you taking it to an independent Test Centre (ie. the ones that only do MoT's)?

Never had a "full" pass on an MoT when I took my cars to a garage. They always found something that would cost more, like the old scam about headlight adjustment being out (had this about 4 years running on the same car). usually things you can't readily check at home are picked up and they charge £7-8 to "sort it". Not a lot of money, but I hate being scammed. This just seemed to be a feature of MoT's wherever I went.

Been taking my cars to an MoT only centre for 5 years now and the only time I had a failure was a cracked coil spring that I'm glad they found. Never had any problems with headlight adjustment etc. (odd that! Shocked )

If you have a good honest garage that don't do the little scams, you're lucky. I thought I'd found one a few years back, until I discovered one of their dangerous bodge jobs that was hidden away and I would have never found if I hadn't been doing another job on the car myself later.

Anyway, good luck with it Mick.

Might be worth getting 6 months tax this time to stagger it all by 6 months next time.
Will cost a little more for this year but spreads out the cost for years to come.

I hope I never have that nightmare. I thought my biggest nightmare was losing a tenner until I read that! Very Happy Very Happy

They obviously don't like Range Rovers or blokes below 40!

Boycott them! Twisted Evil And for anyone who does have their insurance with them, might be worth getting a few more quotes!

NFU membership isn't that much from memory, but didn't you need to prove that you had some connection (however tenuous) with the countryside and/or agriculture to meet the membership requirements?

Note: My information maybe 20 years out of date. Things will probably have changed now.
