Coolant Leak

RR 2014, 4.4

I appear to have a Coolant leak. Nothing drastic but "warning Coolant Level Low" appearing every (say) few weeks. The leak isn't obvious and may be in an inaccessible part of the engine (i.e. need someone with the proper experience and kit to sort). In the meantime, is it ok to top up the reservoir with deionised water from Halfords?

I've got the same issue, waiting to go into the Dealers again, main culprits seem to be Thermostat Housing and/or seal, or Oil Cooler O Rings.

Can you smell coolant outside the car, at least you know then that its not somewhere behind the dash?

I'd get some Antifreeze and mix it as per the instructions, needs to be the Orange stuff.

If your handy with the spanners, get a pressure tester for around £50-60 and follow the procedure in the workshop guide (in the WIKI) to pressure test the coolant system and cap. If mine wasn't under warranty, I'd have a look myself.

Thanks this is really helpful. I don't smell anything and i suspect it is deeper in the engine bay. Probably a seal as you mention. I'm not gonna unleash my motor mechanic ignorance on the RR! Too expensive for me to muck around. I'll get the RR checked out by the local dealership asap and in the meantime keep the reservoir topped up.

Thanks again

I intended to reply sooner but got distracted by life and the onset of early dementia I guess! The issue was a leak from the oil cooler and thermostat hosing. I replaced the housing and cooler along with water pipes and gaskets etc. An eye watering £1,850 plus VAT to sort. Thankfully the problem has been solved and going a treat since.

I saw a new cooler on Ebay yesterday for £102. Pretty pricey labour then!

About £2220 'all in' for fixing the water leak, by a main stealer Shocked Thud

That 'dealer experience' is the best advertisement for good LR Indy garages that I have ever seen. The dealer must have been thinking Ner Ner all the way to the bank. For that price I'd want the parts gold plated.

We had the same thing with ours and several visits to the main dealer, passed pressure tests etc.

Turned out to be the coolant lines running to the back of the car, leak was near the rear drivers side wheel arch and was dripping into one of the shields so you never noticed it. Sold - Bell a 2015 MY16 Loire Blue Autobiography 4.4 SDV8
