Good to hear that some progress is being made and that the supplying dealer is prepared to contribute Thumbs Up

Did you quiz the service centre how they diagnosed the faults? How did they come to the conclusion that it was both the SC snout and viscous coupling? How did they discount timing chain guides? What will they do if it is not those high ticket items?

I have to say I am not convinced - but still hope I am proved wrong Smile

Good luck and keeping my fingers crossed.

To me the coupling and snout makes sense for the age of the car. I know there is a lot of reports that the sound is more random but mine wasn’t. And after having had that done it is definitely quieter.

Personally as they have to take the supercharger off. I would also have an oil change on it. And perhaps reseal the oil cooler and replace the hoses and vaccuum lines. The parts don’t cost much and it will be a huge saving on labour cost compared to having to do it again in say six or 12 months from now.

Just a thought.

Be prepared to be narked.

Seriously buddy, these engines will never be quiet and refined. They are made to be driven and revved and they shine both in experience and in sound. But when standing still and idling they are a bit embarrassing only to be surpassed in embarrassment by a diesel. Best fix for them would be a stop/start system 😈

Heart fluttered a little when I saw a nice 2011 45k Mile supercharged on ebay for 15K, of course it turns out to be a CAT C with potentially iffy history, if it looks too good to be true etc...

That is very naughty at best, but in my opinion rather dishonest of that seller. Makes it very expensive even in this market Wink

Enjoying the new 5.0 L322 of late, engine quieter after the work. Still convinced the chains will need doing at some point though.

Have now listed 2005 4.2 Supercharged for sale, listed on forum etc.

To be honest I prefer the older one in some respects, but can't keep both!
