I have been watching all the old vs new threads with heightened interest as I’m ready to change my Vogue SE as it gets to 3 years old late this year. I don’t want to keep it out of warranty.

It’s a true dilemma and one that I thought I wouldn’t have to face if the timings were right for the new model release. Quite simply this L405 is the best car I have ever owned and where do you go next?

I’m not someone that worries about depreciation, if you don’t want that, don’t buy a car. I do however consider that I’m going to be really peeved if I order a L405 and a month later the launch for the new one happens.

I also consider that I really don’t want to be a new RR test pilot and “enjoy” the doubtless list of faults that will come to light with the new model. I don’t mind a few, heck this one plays the “what won’t work today” lottery every day but they are just niggles such as yesterday’s side steps deciding to not work.

It’s torn me and still does. I’ve had to make a decision and I have. I have ordered a Defender X with all the toys put me on. I I’ve driven it, it’s brilliant and they have been out just long enough for dealers to at least know some faults now. Is it a FFRR? Absolutely not but that’s why I’ve opted for it, it’s not trying to be, it’s the opposite. For what I need to get me through to my next FFRR when it will have been around a wee while and dealers have got used to them, it’s perfect.

I even have to admit that when I got back it mine it felt slightly dated in comparison. I take no pleasure in admitting that.

There is no singular answer to it is there? I have even specced a new AB. I can still change my mind Big Cry - he says still holding a torch for his FF.......

It would be a little bit easier if there was even a path to the new one but I can’t get any info anywhere.

Anyway, sorry for hijacking the thread, just thought I would share my pain.

S

I am picking up my new SE from Solihull on Tuesday and I'll try to get the latest re the L406 and report back.

I had the same dilemma as you but opted for a new L405 because it'll be at least 2 years before any bugs are sorted on the new one and I didn't want the niggles I had with my 2018 car.

I think the Defender is a great car but it ain't a FFRR if you want luxury etc Thumbs Up All LR cars from 1984

I've been watching this thread with interest.

From what I've been told by dealers, the order books are closed for MY21 and MY22 hasn't been released yet, so I'll be interested to see what it is, will it be an L405 with the same engines and loads of goodies bundled on it, or an L405 with the BMW 4.4 or the L460. Personally I'd prefer an L405 with tried and trusted tech.

I've been to my dealer (Dick Lovett) today to do paperwork and he told me they haven't heard a thing about the L406. He thinks everything is being pushed back. He also said I should get more info from Solihull as if anyone knows the timings they will. Thumbs Up All LR cars from 1984

I absolutely agree, a FFRR its not. You will recognise me in it if you see it, ill be the bloke looking sick as a dog at FFRR’s.

Enjoy your new beautiful machine.

I looked at a Defender this morning and it is very well built. The salesman told me that they have had customers who have paid over £100k for one! One chap came in and just said "What do I need" and then said, "Well just put everything on it!!" Thumbs Up All LR cars from 1984

Evening aja,

Good choice, stick with a V8 supercharged and get in touch with special vehicles and you can have you're trim you want too. I would say if you're going to go for it do it properly
