Restricted Performance Limp Mode, but no codes

Hi All. I am currently in the process of changing the EGT sensor based on the excellent write up posted by GDDR.

I am up to the stage of pluging-in and checking the new sensor, before attempting to remove the old one. Air duct is out, and the battery tray removed, plus the WD 40 soak is on the 5th day. Tomorrow is the big day...

I must admit, I am struggling to get a spanner anywhere near the heat shield bolts. Deep joy....

Anyway, the main reason of doing this job, other than clear the code is my car serms to be stuck "Limp Mode", but other than the EGT sensor fault code showing on my Gap IID tool, no codes are showing.

I have already changed the parts associated to LM with no codes, other than the the EgT sensor, of course. This includes:

- Turbo inter-cooler top hose.
- The complete plenum/inlet manifold, including the 4 small hoses.
- MAF sensors (just in case).

After fitting the new plenum, Invested in a Autotool SDT 206 smoke tester, wich is brilliant, but did show any air leaks. I thought a hose at the bottom might be leaking, as I'd concentrated on the top.
But Limp Mode remains...

I am hoping once I run the car with the new sensor the DPF will regerate properly as the 50 mph cruise for 20 minutes has stopped clearing the Amber "DPF Full" warning ⚠️.

Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.

I have attached a photo, taken with my Endoscope, which clearly shows the rediculous heat shield design preventing the removal of the sensor for fun.

Soak with Plus Gas, WD40 is rubbish as a penetrating fluid. There are others, just not WD40. BMW i3 Electric Car

Instead of WD40, there are several other products that may be useful to you, see the below link, similar stuff is available at Euro car parts and other stores

MTG , is the sensor you are attempting to remove on the right hand exhaust manifold as you look at the front of the engine ? .
If so , it's nothing to do with your problem .
I had the same issue as you and it turned out to be the throttle body Thumbs Up 2011 tdv8 4.4 vogue Santorini black

Hi Paul. Yes it is. I thought if there was an issue with the Throttle Body, it would throw up a DTC code?

I have notice a loud hum coming from the T B after you turn the engine of. It stops after about 30 seconds.

Did you repair or replace it?

I got a price for a TB from Maltins 4x4, so will order on Monday.

Thanks for the advice Thumbs Up

Regards

Mark

I replaced my throttle body and it cured it . I also had that sensor replaced because i wanted to get rid of P040D code at a much later date . I ran with that duff sensor for 2 years without issue but OCD got me in the end !!.

Cleaning the map and maf sensors makes a difference to the mpg too i noticed .

Good luck with the car . 2011 tdv8 4.4 vogue Santorini black

Cheers Paul. Access to the heat shield bolts for the sensor is not progressing as well as I would like...

I get a new TB and hope that solves the problem. It's the only thing I haven't changed.

Did you have issues with DPF filling up that a new throttle body cured? Gone to a good home: 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

The Thottle Body chang made no difference at all. I am still trying to get the EGT sensor out. Hopefully once complete, I can carry out a Forced Regen of the DPF and my problem will be over. ?

I'm really sorry you had no luck after changing the throttle body . I didn't have any dpf issues just restricted performance . As I said changing the body cured it .
That sensor which causes P040D error code does nothing and is not anything to do with egr so I fear you are wasting your time and effort replacing it .
You undoubtedly have a air leak on the inlet system , hoses , green seal on inlet connector or at worst a cracked inlet manifold . A high pressure smoke test is where I would go next . 2011 tdv8 4.4 vogue Santorini black
