hello mate, if you can't get a socket then yes you probably need to snip more off the tail.
Socket set up as per my instructions reached it, the swivel head was essential.
1 x 3/8 drive 13mm socket
1 x 3/8 to 1/2 adaptor
1 x 1/2 drive 75mm short extension bar

 Cheers, Greg

Thanks. I have been following your excellent write up to do the job, so I've seen this pic. I will try again tomorrow, whether permitting, once I have trimmed more off the top of the sensor.

Have you moved both heat shields?

No only the rear one. The nut appears to be accessible, when I checked with my Endoscope. See pic.

I found the both had to move. A little bit of that second shield was fouling the socket

United Kingdom 2011 Range Rover Autobiography TDV8 Santorini Black

So, here's my story of woe. Very Happy

Originally the car kept going into Restricted Performance with no Amber PDF warnings. I bought the IID tool as soon as I bought the car and it showed the EGT sensor code. The car went in for a service at my local specialist in December, I gave the a screen shot of the code and asked them to fix it. Anyway they told me the were no codes and just completed a major service and MOT.

Having read the "ghost code" story, I decided I would try to fix the problem myself and I am fairly handy with the spanners.

Following months of research, I decided it must be and air leak. These are the jobs I carried out.

1. Replaced Turbo inter-cooler Top Hose. No change to RP mode.

2. Replaced plastic inlet manifold assy. This included the 4 short hoses, the EGR tube and the MAP sensor.
No change to RP mode.

3. Bought an Autool SDT206 smoke tester to make sure the new Manifold was not leaking and any hoses underneath. I ran it s 20 PSI, but no leaks from anywhere.

4. Cleaned, then replaced the MAF sensors, just in case. No change to RP mode.

5. Following a recommendation from another member on this forum, I replaced the Thottle Body. Again, No change to RP mode.

6. Purchased JLR SDD software and Toughbook tablet to see if the IID had missed anything. The only code was the EGT, which I had been ignoring as a "ghost code". The good thing about this set up is it will let me force regeneration of the DPF to clear the intermittent red DPF warning, which I will do once the sensor has been replaced.

7. Replacing the EGT sensor.

I live in South Wales, so RP makes the car un-driveable, too many hills.

My current hope is the sensor change and DPF regeneration, will solve the problem?

If that fails I will write to JLR to ask for advice as I have run out of ideas.

It took me 2 years to find the car with the spec u wanted. It had full LR service history, had a clean bill of health from JLR when I bought it. The bodywork was even fitted with protective film to the leasing edges bottom of the doors and the door handle Wells.

It my 1st RR and I love it to bit and plan to keep it. I just need to fix this issue.

Anyway, hope I didn't bore you?

Regards

Mark

Hi Mark, well the car looks great. Your attention to air leaks seems sensible.
I'm not sure what the system boost is but possibly the 20psi smoke machine is not enough?

One thought, what about the CSOV valve. WD40 the actuator and check it's working.

How did you get on with the sensor?

Is your RP because your DPF is now full?

. Cheers, Greg

Hi GGDR. The sensor is not going well.

Had another try today. Couldn't cut off any more using the flexible Dremel attachment. Blade Couldn't get the Blade orientation right.

I lowered the heat shield opposite the sensor, which has given me a bit more room to manouver. Then I dropped my 13mm socket. No idea where it's gone. I have left the under trays off, but it didn't appear under the car.

The RP issue is why I have undertaken this work. The car has only been used on short runs (5-6miles) since lockdown, but I had been taking it on the dual carriage way, when the Amber warning ⚠️ appeared. It may have only been doing partial regenerations?

If the sensor is not reading the correct exhaust temperature, surely, it cannot complete a proper regeneration. It must effect it.

I will have another try tomorrow. Got totally fed up with it today.

Mark

This is the smoke tester. It's designed exactly for what I used it for. I opened up both the opposite air box and the the turbo inter-cooler hose. In both cases, the smoke came gushing through, so I'm pretty confident there are no leaks.

It's went red last week, but I've been leaving the IID plugged in and get the "Mrs" to clear the dtc's, which is about every one or 2 minutes. It also pushed the red warning back to Amber.

Ok so it seems simple to me - that is your RP.

Or are you saying it was in restricted before the yellow DPF?

The IID won't clear that code but IMO you need to do a forced regeneration and then it will go.
I have a feint recollection that a red DPF does not show as a listed error, despite the red symbol on your dash.

Apparently the IIDTool can do forced regenerations now but you probably need to update your IID.
What you can do is tell the IID you have fitted a new DPF and that will clear it BUT you need to make sure to do a forced regeneration immediately. Disclaimer: you are not supposed to do it this way.

I've not. tried it because I have a separate tool which can clear a red dpf and force a regeneration, tool is called "DA-DPF"

The EGT error should not stop you doing a forced regeneration.

Sounds like you'll be finishing the sensor anyway. Be patient, you will get it.

. Cheers, Greg
