Completely, at least I know. I had always suspected the turbos, and I was correct!

Any recommendations about what to replace along with the turbos?

1. Intercooler?
2. Oil Feed pipes?

Just want to make this bullet proof...

Likewise, based on past experiences what is the likelihood of additional engine issues based on my experience? Anything I should check in this regard...

Hi folks.

So eventually the mechanic is making progress. In order to access the Passenger side turbo he decided the best route was via removing the engine and gearbox, which he has done! (I don't have much luck with these RRs!)

He informed be there was oil everywhere in the intercooler & Pipes.

Anyways, this has allowed one to get a look into the condition of the turbo.

We believe everything is there, so hopefully with new turbos and a cleaned out intercooler we should hopefully be back in action with no damage. It's so hard to know.

The turbos are currently getting repaired at Midland Turbos as recommended by a forum member.

The feedback is as follows:

Left Turbo 1

Cause of failure - Major Overspeed - see attached leaflet especially looking at pipework on the inlet and or intercooler. Also check and Boost Control systems, damaged intercoolers and ECU faults.

Cautionary Note - check air filter and induction pipes for residue.

Right Turbo 2

Cause of failure - Full of oil and carbon, probably as a result of the left sided failure.

Tbf it occurred only 12 minutes after blanking EGRs, but I'm struggling to see how this can be related. It seems to be pure chance.

Hope to have the turbos back by the end of the week and have her back on the road next week.

I'm also replacing the Intercooler/ Intercooler Pipes whilst I'm at it.

Midland turbos are a great company, really know their stuff and do quality work with sensible pricing. We've had quite a few specialist turbo's built by them, always been spot on. You should have confidence in their work and seriously note their comments and advice.

IMHO remove the EGR blanking... then, either replace the EGR's and make it work as JLR intended or get them mapped out by a remapping company...

OK Folks. So an update for your guys.

Apparently the Starter & Alternator were replaced or maybe refurbished with the previous owner so all is OK on that front - but now certainly would be the right time to go at it.

The mechanic is currently reinstalling the engine so should know by tomorrow what condition everything is in. Nevertheless, not looking promising at the moment.

We found pieces of broken turbo at the bottom of the intercooler. Just hoping none of this made it's way into the engine. Which is unlikely.

If this doesn't work, sometime in September I'm going to have to strip the engine head and repair whatever is wrong. The second RR I've had to do this on.

Let's hope not.

OK Folks!

Another update --> She Lives.

New Intercooler and Intercooler pipes, and she's running A1. I'm so surprised I really was expecting some internal damage owing to the amount of debries found in the intercooler.

So I took her for a 1 hour drive yesterday and it perform perfect except for two things which I must sort.

1. The headlight alignment is off with the left side much too high, thus blinding oncoming traffic. I must adjust this down tonight.
2. Coming up a steep hill out of town engine system fault came up on the screen and it cut power. I assume over boosting. As I mentioned all intercoolers pipes are new, so the only fault I think is causing this is the blanking of the EGRs.

I checked the faults but there was 15+ owing to the engine replacement etc. I therefore cleared them and am awaiting the same to occur again.

I'm not flooring it currently and driving gently until I can get a feel for the car.

We never really got to the bottom of why the original turbo failed, however midland noted overspeed.

Could EGRs blanking cause the above symptom -> 'overspeed' and thus to prevent damage the car by cutting the power?

Nonetheless we are on the road to recovery with this RR!

That’s excellent news. Can’t help with your turbo query though.

I’m not sure anyone has actually nailed down the reason they fail.....

OK folks.

So I took her out today and replicated the fault.

These are the error codes:
P140A EGR - They are blanked and getting mapped out on Monday.
P023D Manifold Absolute Pressure Sensor A!

Any ideas? I've installed new Intercooler Hoses/ New Intercooler. Going check the manifold for any obvious signs of leaks.

Could this be related to the blanked EGRs?
