Keep us updated weegie

I'm going to be doing the same soon and just contemplating handing it over to someone local to do it if you have a struggle with it Confused

I won't be doing it myself, i did both fronts on the Td6 but since then I have had a major operation and can't lift weights or undo/redo nuts and bolts which require a bit of effort. Really frustrating

I'm going to have to have someone local and, like us on here, I know what's needed and probably better how to do the job. C'est la vie!

Will report eventually as to how it goes. TBH with the gap tool to handle the air, it's really a straightforward job John

Had the job done today. As expected the damper was not straightforward. Very tight. My chap had SnapOn tools which were equal to the job.

I haven't done photos of the whole process but have attached some of what the damper consists of. With the correct tools it was a pretty straightforward job. I got new bolts for the bottom but couldn't source the dampers so the existing one went back on no problem.

Hope that is of help. I have done both on my Td6 which didn't have the dampers. I don't think, although I have a pretty comprehensive set of tools, that it would have been so easy.

Started mine yesterday, thought everything was going OK, until I couldn't get the bottom strut bolt out, absolutely solid, gave up this morning and put everything back together, found a land rover small garage, who is also the britpart agent on the silver coast, got there at 11.30 packed in for lunch at 2pm, first side completed at 4pm, same issue on the other side, bottom bolt was a right bastard again. Job completed at 6pm. He wouldn't give me a price for the job and I just hung about tge garage keeping an eye on them.

Cost me 10e each for the brothers lunch
And 80e for the work done ๐Ÿ˜‚๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜๐Ÿ˜Ž.

I will never ever scramble about under this car again

At that price it's not worth doing it yourself. I was well content at โ‚ฌ100 and he came to me and did it in the bsrn. John

To amplify the photos for anyone contemplating doing the job with dampers:

The silver part is like a cup into which the black part screws. When unscrewing the black part the effect is that it loosens the retaining nut for the silver part and so the whole spins without unscrewing the black part.

The only way to separate both parts is to remove the strut and hold the silver part with some heavy duty grips whilst unscrewing the black part. There isn't, as far as I can see, any way to get to the silver part with grips in situ.

Hope that all makes sense

So my old struts had these big threaded caps with an Allen in the middle.

The new do not have and the old caps would not come offโ€ฆ

Any ideas? Iโ€™m using without currently

They are a vibration damper, you will need to use an impact wrench with 14mm Allen drive and large grips to stop the housing from rotating, I bet some people don't bother refitting them tbh

As above, the black part unscrews but it requires heavy duty grips on the silver cup underneath to separate them. John

any truth to this (pinched from another forum)

I had exactly this issue a few weeks ago. I was reluctant to use an impact wrench as the black damper is plastic.
So, to be clear there are no threads on the damper - its glued in.
I used a hot air gun to warm everything up as much as I dare. Then used an allen key in the top of the damper and applied pressure smoothly rather than as an impact.
Once the glue lets go it will pull straight out.
Good luck ! Current stable:

Not plastic and, although LR state it has very strong thread lock, mine had just a smear. John
