Hello!

My name is Sigmund, and i recently bought my first Range Rover.
This is my third Land Rover, having previously owned a 2006 Defender 110 TD5 for six years, and i 1998 Discovery 1 300 tdi auto for a couple of months.

I loved my Defender (and hated the Disco…), but now it was time for some comfort.
The whole family was split between a Disco 3/4 or a L322.
We have a gundog, so a large boot is needed. But in the end, we thought that a «full fat» was what we wanted the most.

The car we bought a Vogue 4.4 V8 Petrol in Buckingham Blue, with blue interior.
Bought at 199.500 km on the clock.

Has a great service history and only three prior owners.

So far i have:

- Changed the side bezels from chrome to grey
- New lettering on the tailgate
- Changed white side repeators to orange
- Flushed and cleaned the rear wiper nozzle
- New oil and filter
- Pollen filter
- Air filter
- Messed up, and trying to fix the headlight wipers.
- New rear right sidelight as the old was leaking and fogging up badly.
- Remowed the old Siemens phone docking in cubby.

The plan is to keep the car stock with no bling, and sorting out the last minor thing, and keep it in the good Shape this car deserves.

Things i need to sort out:

- I need different small interior fixings all around (not to worring)
- Left side headlight wiper is not good (tried fuse 19 reset)
- Some problems with the FBH
- New studded Winter tyres, got two sets of rims (20’’ and 18’’)
- Westfalia removable tow hitch is stuck
- Heater matrix fan is not shutting up
- Minor oil leaks, not sure from where yet.
- New petrol filter
- Flushing coolant (heard that bleeding on the V8 is not very easy).

But we are super happy with the car, and almost everything is working the way it should!

I forgot to say that wheel archers are looking good, and that mid october i have an appointment to drench the underside in Fluid film (which is incredible!).
We got a lot of salt on the roads here in Norway, so that is something i do with all my cars once every year.

Here's some advice:

- I need different small interior fixings all around (not to worring)
Check on Ebay, no need to be brand new. Supertwraks and similar sites (although UK based) are also a good source.

- Left side headlight wiper is not good (tried fuse 19 reset)
Iirc it's fuse 38. But still, it's probably the washer pump that's burned. There are inexpensive Hella ones on sale anywhere you look at. These are not high pressure, that's why they are cheap.

- Some problems with the FBH
Wish mine had one...

- New studded Winter tyres, got two sets of rims (20’’ and 18’’)
18" would be for my "working" tyres

- Westfalia removable tow hitch is stuck
Guess some penetrating oil would help...

- Heater matrix fan is not shutting up
Look up FSR final stage resistor. It's around 50 euros part on Ebay; not too hard DIY fit

- Minor oil leaks, not sure from where yet.
Check the rocker cover gaskets, spark plug wells, VANOS solenoid seals and upper timing chain cover gaskets. Better tackle all these in one go. Quite inexpensive, really. And consider bead blasting + powder coating the rocker covers EXTERIOR while at it
Look up and check the cyclonic oil separator, PCV valve and the associated fittings and hoses. Inspect and replace the thin tubes running from the PCV valve and branching over the intake manifold. They cost next to nothing.
A vacuum leak may be hard to track down and cause a ton of unexplained symptoms but it is easily remedied or prevented.

- New petrol filter
Easy one

- Flushing coolant (heard that bleeding on the V8 is not very easy). Bleeding is VERY easy, it will bleed out by itself at the slightest opportunity
Seriously now, have the hoses checked. Mine had suffered mostly hoses and rubber fitting failures...
Whatever you do, use only ONE type of coolant EITHER Green OR Red.
The valley pan is another weak spot which can fail quite impressively but you can't know it's gone bad until it eventually fails. Not the end of the world by any means...

Consider changing front+rear diff oils plus transfer case oil (not urgently)

Do change gearbox fluid. Will need about 7 ltrs for a simple change not a flush. Buy original JLR filter + gasket. As for the oil, you can pay JLR ticket at the tune of 30+ euros / ltr OR use fuchs TITAN ATF1 or Fuchs ATF 4000. The latter will happily replace your power steering fluid as well. Those are af 14 euros / ltr

PS : I love how you can fit a large cage and secure it with the buckle straps. Mine came with a pair of factory ones plus a cargo net! I'm sure your gun dog enjoys the ride in that cozy cabin.

Finally got Westfalia off, cleaned and lubed and tucked away!
Needs to go on already this weekend, but now it dont need to be on all the time.
Was more of a patience game, then brut force.

WD40 and a rubber mallet are (your) best friends in the L322 ownership experience

Today the car got some really good treatment with FluidFilm, so now i am ready for the extreme amounts of salt they use in here in Oslo, Norway.

This is a job where i use professionals since its a real mess.

As the temperatures drop, i thought about using the heated steering wheel... and suddenly it hos stopped working.
Theres still a lot to do with this car, so i wont address this fault now, but it would be really nice to have during the colder months.

But, the ride is beutiful! I dont miss my Defender much
