Driver's Outer Door Handle Cable Replacement

It was all going so well until my attempts to remove the old cable end resulted in a fractured retaining claw casting. So, do I need a complete new door handle? Or is the inner mechanism readily available? Or bodge with some Araldite as a temporary solution? Easy one hour job they said. What could possibly go wrong! Thanks for any advice.
