United Kingdom 2006 Range Rover Supercharged 4.2 SC V8 Buckingham Blue
How to Build: Land Rover

Just wondered if any on here watched the program

I came away thinking Land Rover have thrown away their own market, hugely expensive, overly complicated etc etc

Do they really not want the old defender market any more?

What do you think?

And yes it was a fascinating program and I loved the attention to detail, but found it very sad that its not built in the uk Range Rover 4.2 Supercharged 2006
Ford Focus EcoBoost 1.5 2017
MG TF 2003

Previous Cars of note
Land Rover Discovery 2
Jaguar Mk2 3.8 - Company car
MG Midget 1974 - Concours

United Kingdom

They are that but you have to consider the volume of cars made vs others, and that if you were an accountant you’d see that most of the profit is made from optional extras so they naturally get drawn towards it,

Also given limitations in build capacity they have to do two things:

1. Maximise profit per vehicle
2. Balance manufacturing of smaller fuel efficient vehicles to offset carbon emissions per vehicle from total manufactured

If you take Ford they make no money on ka and fiesta, they only make them to pull overall emissions down on the whole range. What will be interesting is when everything goes electric and hydrogen the manufacturer will no longer be required to produce smaller less profitable vehicles, the question is will they still do so? Or shut down the manufacturing lines?

United Kingdom 2015 Range Rover Autobiography SDV8 Corris Grey

The new Defender is in a different class now and not in the same market space. The new Ineos Grenadier looks an excellent vehicle and designed to take the old Defender market. The Chairman of the company (Ineos) alledgedly made an offer tro buy the old Defender rights and production facilities but thety turned him down (obviously wanting to preserve the value of the Defender brand). The Ineos launches next year.
