To answer the original question, also a lot of people who here stories then over exaggerating the fact on reliability. The new ingenium engines appear to be causing a few issues, I know of two Jaguar XE’s that have needed new timing chains at 65,000 and 82,000 miles respectively! Both covered under warranty.

Terrible, terrible cars!

You only have to look on eBay to see that some of them only do 200,000 miles.

At that rate I will only be keeping mine for the next 30 years!

Shocking!

In my experience the newer the model I’ve owned the less reliable it’s been Sad
Could be due to the fact they’ve become more complex over the years.

3 x Classics, 2 x P38’s No major issues with any of those.
2 x D3 No issues
1 x D4 Probably my best ever LR Got spooked by the crank issue and sold it, still regret that decision

A 2015 L405 supercharged. Great car but horrendous reliability, left me stranded twice with huge repair bills.
It had only covered 40k miles. My favourite LR to drive, my worst for ownership.

Currently got a 2018 RR Sport. Hasn’t left me stranded but it’s a ‘guess what warning light will come on today’ type of car!!
I’ll be moving that on soon, doesn’t feel cheap when you’re driving it, just doesn’t feel as special as it should for the money.
Certainly no Full Fat.

I’m considering an L322 next. 1. Because I’ve never owned one and 2. I’m going to put my ‘the older the better’ theory to the test Shocked

Wish me luck Thumbs Up

In my experience my MY2020 L405 (? not sure about the type name), feels 'unconnected' to the driver.
My D3 was great, still regret I didn't change to a D4 instead of the F-Pace / D5 / FFRR route..

I think the 'feel' I am looking for sits in the D4.

The older the car, the more repairs, the more hassle. I think between 3-12yrs old you have the least of problems.

After I sold my D3 (2006 HSE Lux TdV6, remapped to 240hp 520nm), the new owner did Censored of repairs.
Not that I had maintained it badly (always pro-active), but he went for 'pristine'. I think he spent € 10 k.

Still original engine and autobox ( 450k km). Unique color : Vienna Green.

Before getting an L322, look into emission and restrictions in towns you want to go to. For me it was already a

guessing game to get back from Portugal withhout a DPF. France has environmental zones that impede you

from travelling north/south if imposed due to weather conditions. I-pace First Edition Santorini & 2nd car Mazda MX-30 Advantage red/black

A D4 really was hard to beat as an all rounder. I found it it wafted around as nicely as an L405, decent enough pace with a more than acceptable fuel economy, a huge boot and I was amazed how often we used the 7 seats.

A sad day when they replaced it with the D5 Sad

I remember talking to a Land Rover production engineer a few years ago and whilst looking at my car he said to me it’s a pity you can’t replace the bulbs on those with led bulbs, they would look so much better. He looked at me with a blank expression when l told him my car was fully led bulbs. He hadn’t heard of canbus bulbs. Rolling Eyes
And you wonder why LR products have such reliability issues.

I'd be driving a D4 now if it wasn't for the crank issue. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Love my L405 AB, coming on 50,000 miles in 3 years of ownership / 72,000 miles total and the only issues have been a leaky oil gasket under the bonnet and the Front ARB's replaced, all under warranty. oh and the pre-heater Isn't working, parts on back order - I've kept the extended warranty for peace of mind.

Did almost 600 miles in it yesterday ... bliss

Some say I'm lucky, but we've had 2 x TDV8 sports an SDV6 sport, an Evoque and now a L494 and an L405. total problems with the others amounted to an EGR valve, an air compressor and a broken ABS wire.

I can't complain at all very good experience and my local dealer isn't hard work either, but does like to charge accordingly

Thumbs Up .

I have had a Discovery TD5 for the last eleven years, now off road needing a rear chassis repair. Main problems, rusty brake pipes, tyres, rusty chassis, cost £1500 in 11 years, not too bad. My FF just failed Mot due to some Censored has cut open the Cats and DPF filters to save money, and got a fake MOT on it, even though the tester reckons the car is now too dangerous to do a brake test on it. It will cost the cars value to fix it!

Disco TD5 is a great bus. I can see the value of well cared for examples increasing year on year. It’s a lot of car for the money and with a simple diagnostic tool relatively easy to manage.

I think it was a seal as well as a gasket - I'll double check on the invoice though. .
