Strange metal scraping noise - Help

Just drove home from work, the last 200m to home is a slow drive (10mph) due to parked cars etc. when I reversed onto the driveway I could hear a scraping noise, sounded like metal on the road. I was certain I’d see something hanging off the underside, making contact with the road. It was pitch black and raining, but with a torch couldn’t see anything.

Any other ideas what it could be? I’m actually shocked I didn’t see something hanging down. I’m thinking maybe a loose brake dust shield? Any other suggestions?

Only asking as supposed to be driving to a wedding Saturday and working tomorrow until 9pm Big Cry Big Cry Big Cry

Sounds very much like a brake dust shield to me. Splashing through puddles prob finished it off.

Stick your fingers through the alloys and give them all a wiggle…

Had a front come loose on mine in September. Sounded like a grating… then a massive rattle. 2011 Range Rover Vogue SE 4.4 TDV8

that will be the handbrake-shoe retaining spring trapped between disc and brake backplate. the retaining washers on the end of the pins rust through so springs pop off and get stuck there. sounds awful, but no bigee. push backplate inwards with a screwdriver through wheel spokes to release it. new pins required, thats all.

While your at it mate get some securing pin plates to hold the pin into place like a normal hand brake set up. Land rover decided to miss this washer and make it inside the brake dust shield itself

Thanks gents will crawl under her in the morning early. Is it a fix I can do to get me driving again without getting the pins?

soon as you mentioned handbrake, yesterday morning and morning before when I set off for work the car creaked like when a car has been sad idle for a few weeks and the handbrake sticks on - so am guessing definately that

I shall venture outside at 8am in the freezing cold and investigate Big Cry

You'll need to take the rear brake caliper off so you've got some movement in the disc to get the pin out. You can drive it without the locating pins but all you'll do is chew the rear shoes up and notice that your hand brake will be somewhat ineffective.

Best thing to do is to get a new hand brake fitting kit from your local dealer and then go and get some pin washers. Pop one of them behind the actual brake dust shield where it should go and pop the pin through the washer itself assuming the shield still has good strength. While your at it with the brake discs off, sort out the hand brake adjustment as well mate.
