Red Warning light - how far would you drive?

Hi,

So Red Restricted performance came on out of nowhere, 2011 4.4TDV8

Car drives holding 60 on the motorway but there is a very obvious lack of power.

Unfortunately i dont have anOBD scanner.

I have about 45 miles to get home, would you keep driving or better to park it?

As always, thankful for any replies!

I had the red DPF full light come on once when I was halfway to work Restricted performance kicked in but I found using the paddle shifts helped. In total I would have driven about 30 miles getting it to work and then on to my Indy and it was fine. Obviously if your 45 mile trip can be done on roads no faster than 50MPH it will feel more comfortable than if you were on a major motorway. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

Most likely an air/boot leak.... But could be something else...

Check your oil level as a basic thing...

Check boost hoses as best you can where you are..

Switch off leave it for a bit then maybe the code will clear?

Otherwise call a roadside assist who would have a code reader

Good luck. Cheers, Greg

@dennij; this is the red RP light, have not haf any DPF lights, thankfully.

@ Gregg, I suspect something similar. The 4 short hoses were replaced a year ago along with the EGR and a bunch of gaskets. Could it be MAP or MAF sensors perhaps?

Anyway, I followed your advice and turned the car off for 20 min. Started up again and warning gone. Drove home fine. Will take it to indy tomorrow to read fault codes...

Only thing i noticed is that fule consumption was up about 30 % on the way home, just following the instantaneous reading on the screen RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

And oil/filter change was done about two weeks ago so that shouldn’t be it I’d hope RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

ok well good you got home Thumbs Up

Time to invest in an IID. ?
You can get cheaper code readers too.

Once I was on the motorway and a restricted came up out of nowhere.
Motorway way busy and no hard shoulder and it wasn't a good time to drop from 70mph to 50mph.

I cleared the code with three clicks as I has the IID running and poof - gone and back to 70mph so it was a fantastic thing to have at hand.

I waited for the error to return but it never did.

I would not own a RR without an IID or other code reader, it''s essential kit.
No idea what 'normal' people do!! Shocked
. Cheers, Greg

Ditto. IID is permanently kept in the glove box. Never leave home without it Bow down 2011 4.4 TDV8 Vogue SE Buckingham Blue with Ivory and clear glass = "Rory"

@Greg, Rob; IID tool on the shopping list!

Strange tho this time as I just had the car to my trusted indy and no faults logged.

He said it could be the cold weather (-12 here at the moment) and that the fault has cleared itself.

His advice was to take it out for a proper thrashing and see if the fault comes back. Otherwise forget and move on...

600 mile+ roadtrip planned this weekend so fingers crossed Yawn RR Vogue 4.4 TDV8 - 11

I know this is an old thread but a search on restricted performance finds plenty, maybe to much. After I had the car serviced the red triangle appears even on a modest journey (40 miles).I took it to my local Indy yesterday and they charged me 300 quid to provide and change a 60 quid sensor. I’m not a tools man but I do have an IDTool is there something simple I can check or is it a case of a few hundred quid more with my fingers crossed ? Geoff

Can I assume that before the service there was no issue with restricted performance popping up? Normally it’s caused by an air leak on the intake, you could start by checking the simple things like air filter screwed down properly, pipe from air filter box to first jubilee clip etc. If this issue has only come on since the service was done then it might be worth asking the garage to check they haven’t left anything off. 2011 TDV8 Vogue SE

IME it’s very unwise to run these cars and not own a GAP IID tool. It’s like not having a spare tyre or breakdown cover. My short time under the bonnet has led me to have a very poor opinion of the wiring looms used in these cars. Lots of exposed insulators on the ends of connectors that is causing them to get hard and fragile which if disturbed during clumsy servicing leads to breaks in circuits and reduced performance faults.
Back to the original question - without knowing the specific fault it’s not possible to say if it’s safe to drive. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Thanks,
I do have an IDTool and used it to reset the fault once other times it has cleared itself while parked up. I took it back to the garage that did the service but they just replaced the exhaust gas temperature sensor. Needless to say fault is still there 😀 Local Indie is where I had it serviced. Geoff

Read the codes from the IIDTool it says- P040D(2F) it also says Exhaust gas temperature sensor A circuit high.

Anyone got any ideas, if I turn ignition off whilst "Restricted Performance" warning is active it runs on for a second or two. If I reset it with IIDTool then all is OK - until it comes on again (a good half hour). Is this in anyway messing with my DPF as it obviously can't do a region when limited to 50 or so mph. I assume when the warning isn't showing its regaining as normal. Geoff
