Best/easiest place to get ignition live in boot?

Hi all - this really - I need one for my exhaust valve control - there must be one there but my meter didn’t find anything on the fuse panel (unless I’m a moron) so thinking splicing something? Current stable:
2006 BMW M6
2007 4.2 V8 S/C FF
Gone:
2002 4.4 V8 FF

I'd have thought that the easiest is the cigar lighter socket in the boot....

Edit: Scrub that - only applies to the 2010-12 model. The older I get, the more I realise that people confuse wrinkles for wisdom Smile

It may or may not be relevant to a 2007 model but earlier cars had an ignition controlled cable as part of the feed to the trailer socket. The cable was 0.5mm and was green / yellow and could be found in the loom running above the rear fuse board position. If you find this cable and intend to use it to splice into bear in mind it can only be used to switch a relay for additional equipment, it’s fused at 5A. Thumbs Up

Thanks - the cigar sockets in the car semi to be ignition lives but the boot one is permanent - can that be changed with relay did I once see?

If not I’ll splice that green wire Current stable:

I’m sure I read somewhere that in spite of manuals saying the rear cig lighter is permanent that it does switch off when car goes to sleep. Have you got anything with a light you can plug in and watch through the window?

I have a tyre compressor I could put the lead out the window - how long until it sleeps? Current stable:

You could put a USB adapter in and run a long phone lead out the window to see how long it stays on charge. Not sure how long a compressor will run with no load before overheat cutout. 2007 4.2SC Buckingham Blue

The cig lighter stays on with the earlier cars. 2010 MY cars don’t, goes off when the car goes to sleep. I know, cos I have a 12v cooler box that won’t stay powered on 🤣. Did on my TD6.

I’m not 100% sure, but I think the little red light near the gear lever goes out when your car is asleep…. If it helps you testing your sockets looking through the window.
