If Diesel Engines are banned in the UK

Hi Guys. I was just thinking of the options if new Diesel power cars are banned in the future, what happens to my 2011 4.4 TDV8. She in great condition and I definitely plan to keep her.

My thoughts were airing on replacing the Engine with a late L405 5.0L Supercharged engine with the accompanying 8 speed auto box. I could do most of the work myself, I think.

My questions are this:

1. Is it even possible?
2. Has anyone actually carried out this conversation and what is your experience of the procedure and r the results?

Thank you.

Okay. That's good to hear, Thank you. Will Diesel fuel still be available at the pumps?

It will go the same way cigarettes have since the government decided we should all give up...

By the time diesel hit's £10 a litre you will have stopped driving one a long time before... Rolling Eyes Pete

I was speaking to a Truck design engineer, forget which brand, and he said they have already developed a Truck which is purely electric and is being tested now that can run on motorways all day!! True or not, who knows.

Diesel won't be banned but it will likley get more expensive and uneconomical to use in passenger cars. There is no technical reason why you can't swop your engine but the cost in time and money would make it far cheaper to simply buy 5.0 Petrol L322 in the first place. Even if you did do the conversion it's just as likley petrol will go the same way as diesel. If you really love your L322 and want to keep it for eternity I'd look into converting it to electric. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

They'll probably come up with a synthetic fuel in the next few years anyway, then tell everyone that bought an electric car that they are the problem as their cars need fossil fuel burning power stations to power them, plus the dangerous elements in the car batteries that can't be disposed of safely.

Pretty much similar to when the government told everyone they should get diesel cars and did an about turn later on, saying that they were evil.

It's all about keeping the world economy moving with people buying new cars all the time.

If it was just about new car sales why not just keep going with diesel and petrol cars as that model has been working very well for the last 100+ years...... 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

No one is proposing a ban on owning a diesel car. 2012 TDV8 Vogue (L322)

Just out on a few points there:-
1) EV's generally use green power supplied by Octopus or home solar PV
2) Batteries are not a problem and can be recycled safely.

Take a little look at this

Now things like old engine oil, exhaust emissions, rotting bodywork, brake dust and the like, they are a problem Very Happy BMW i3 Electric Car

Errr, don’t EVs produce brake dust then? And not all chargers will use Green energy because the grid isn’t green. Your set up may well be, but others don’t have that choice available to them.
